Their web site currently seems to be having trouble loading as I post this, so just keep trying.

Seems like a fairly decent deal. It's cheap enough to add a 4/8GB stick of RAM for $20/40.

I would wanna know the power supply as well. Gtx 645 is a rebadged GTX 560 SE which is basically a GTX 460.

i would go as far as to call it a mid-range student PC due to 4gb ram, have not seen the gateway logo in some time.

KDS-the monitor company purchased E-machines some years back and took it private, they then bought gateway i believe.

My bad, I thought it was an HP. It's a Gateway. Gateway is owned by Acer. (not KDS)

So is this any good for gaming? Can anyone suggest anything at or under $500 which is?

It will be OK for gaming if you are at 1080p, or (preferably) lower. If the video card is equivalent to a GTX 460, then I have 2 of those on "gaming" machines at my house. They are paired with 1680 x 1050 and 1440 x 900 monitors, and they can handle any games we've played on them. Haven't tried the "latest" games, but certainly things like Skyrim, Crysis, Team fortress, and plenty of other 3D games play fine,. One is paired with an AMD FX6300 (6-core) and the other with an overclocked G3258, both of which would be slower than the cpu here. These were both $99 cpu + MB combos from Microcenter.

For something under $500 - you can get an R9 270X (like mine) for around $100 if you buy used. For example, mine was $90. If you live near a Microcenter, then you can get a CPU + Motherboard for around $100 (FX6300). Microcenter has 8GB of RAM for $50, and decent cases (Fractal, Antec, etcc..) for $35 without power supply. Enermax or Corsair PSU for $40. The get an SSD - pretty good deals for $100 these days (256GB)

So we are at ~$430 for something that has a fast video card (used), SSD and 8GB of RAM, but it would be an AMD CPU. I'm not seeing any good Intel MB + cpu deals. And you would need an OS - could probably get a Home Edition of something for $70, so that puts you right at $500 (unless you can get Windows 10 for free).

I have 2 kids in high school and built "gaming" rigs for their friends for much less than $500, but I had to make good use of Ebay and Craigslist, and the CPU+MB deals at Microcenter. I recently picked up a Socket AM3 MB at Microcenter for $22, and then bought a CPU on Ebay for $15 - it plays games fine (for the price).
