Mid Range Next Gen Cards?

Ok, all I've seen lately is the 'flagship in your face' cards. Anyone know anything about the mid-range ATI or NVidia?

I amthinking they intend on leaving the 9800XT as the mid range for awhile. the X500 or X600(can't remember which) shouln't be too far behind the X800XT, another month or so I am thinking.

There has been much said and written about both midrange cards, the X800 Pro and the 6800 GT.

They are the new midrange in so far as their suggested retail price ($400) is less than $500 (X800 XT and 6800 Ultra) and more than $300 (plain 6800).

I'm don't know how you could've missed reading and hearing about these two cards as they've been included in all the benches published since the launch of the X800 last week.

NO he is talking about the Replacement for the Geforce FX 5700 and Radeon 9600XT

He isnt talking about the replacement for the GeforceFX5900XT and Radeon 9800 Non Pro

I think Nvidia is planning on bringing out a 8 Pipeline card Based off the Geforce 6800 with 700Mhz DDR1 ram with a 350-400Mhz core

They will probably call it Geforce 6700 maybe 6600 and bring out an Ultra Version with faster ram.

As for the Low end I guess they will hafta replace the FX5200 sometime but not right away as they are still making money off these cards.

They will probably bring out a Card based off the 6800 Core yet again maybe called 6200 with 4 ? 6 pipelines slow 400Mhz DDR1 ram probably clocked at 300-400Mhz core.

PCI ? Express bridged cards for all.

In the end I think all these chips somehow started off as a Geforce 6800 but got butchered along the manafacuring line or binned for having fauilty pipelines .. just like ATI does with there X800 Pro cards .. and X800 SE cards?

I?m not sure if 6700 and 6200 will have PS3.0 support time will tell .

All I amthining is that the mid range doesn't really go over $300 even at debut, now the 6800NU might qualify as it is right at the $300 mark. This bring up an intersting question of the low end market that is in the $100-$150 maximum range. I can maybe see the X800SE dropping that far aroudn christmas but what about now? Is the 9600 going to take that spot?

That's not mid range, 800 denotes top end, the XT or Pro or GT or Ultra denote the level of top end. With Radeons we're now moving on from 9 to 10 (or roman numeral X). Conveniently the GeForces are still consistent, as we're now on the GeForce 6, or 6xxx.

He means midrange defined by the number (usually) 600. We've got the midrange Radeon 9600 and the GeForce 5600 (but because the 5600 was sort of a dud, the 5700 came to replace and better compete with the 9600 line).

When we're getting into multiple 'levels' of 'high-end', there are too many parts out there. IMO. But yes, basically all of these are fairly high-end cards.

For the moment, both the R9600Pro/XT and GeForce5700/5700U will continue to be produced. ATI is planning to put out a full range (low, mid, and high-end) of PCI-E cards probably in 3Q or 4Q of this year. I'm not sure if there will be a new AGP-based equivalent to the 9600 or 9200; they might just keep cranking those out for the next year, then go entirely to PCI-E. NVIDIA's plans are a bit hazier, but they'll also probably have a full line of GeForce6 cards out within the next 6 months as well.

I think 9800 was planned to be mid-range and the 9600 (SE?) was going to replace low-end.

My guess is for the next few months the 5900s and 9800s will fill that roll until the stocks are diminished. Then Nvidia + ATI will release cut down versions of the current cards.

I think it's better to call these cards Mid-HIgh end or something along those lines.

Just like 9700Pro is a midrange High end card. Or you can refer to 5900xt/5900/9700Pro/9800NP as high end and 9800xt and 5950 as ultra-high end. It all depends but Midrange card do not retail at $399, that's for sure.

Similarly, X800SE and 6800NU are not midrange cards either as they will cost $299 to start.

It seems like has been mentioned 9800 series cards will now become midrange for a while until X600 comd out (of course if their price dips below $150). I just cant believe that about 3-4 months ago ppl were contemplating whether or not to spend extra $50 to step up to 5900xt or 9700Pro at $200 when the slow poke 9600xt cost $150. The performance difference in games was huge, FAR GREATER than the performance difference between 6800GT vs. Ultra and x800pro vs x800xt and for those cards the price difference is at least $100. I could understand spending $399 for a 6800Gt which is generally 2x as fast as the $200 9800Pro so the price justifies them but spending $499 for a 6800Ultra over GT ($100 for 15% improvement max!) is ridiculous.

So overall consensus is that the 9800pro takes the place until the true next gen 8 pipeline, or however many pipeline, cards come out?
