Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - anyone here excited about this game? update-reviews!

I've been following this game for the last few months. I actually never played any other games based from the Tolkien universe, but I'm really excited for this game. I really like what I've read about the games' "nemesis system", which tracks and crafts your interaction with the enemy orcs.

Additionally, the enemy Orcs themselves are given unique personalities that change over time based on your interactions with them. You can also turn some enemy orcs to join your side, or use them for intel. It's a totally different concept for enemy interactions that I've never seen before. How this system works out in the game remains to be seen, but it's intriguing!

I've also viewed videos that showcase the combat mechanics, and it reminds me of the batman games, which is a good thing in my opinion! So, anyone else excited about this game?

Yes, I've been keeping watch for this one too. I've been wondering why there hasn't been any hype for it since it seems like it will be a really good game.

I might end up having to hold off though, my desktop is getting old so I don't want to spend any money on AAA titles until I can get a decent upgrade.

It's on Steam right now, so I'd say that's a "no" to that WB Access idea

I saw the presentation they gave of it several months ago (I think it was E3 but might have been something else) and it looked interesting. I've basically not heard a whisper about it since then until it showed up on Steam for pre-order a few days ago, but I haven't exactly been looking for info about it either. Hoping it is as good as it looks, there are some interesting concepts for sure, but I'm holding off on buying until I see some good user reviews.

I was really excited at first, but the more I learn, it seems too muck like a fighting game than an RPG, which is what I was hoping for. Nothing g wrong with that, just not my type of game. It has some interesting concepts though. And yes, the system requirements are insane. Hopefully it won't be an unoptimized mess like watchdogs.

There are a lot of interesting concepts; I'm not sure if its a day one pick up for me; but I'll snag it fairly soon as I do want to play around with it.

I just don't see the Nemesis program working out as planned I imagine you will have certain characters on the enemies side that you cannot kill and their personalities will be the only ones that might change depending on certain conditions that you choose . What would be cool is if when you play the game any enemy could possibly be a nemesis.

Having your interactions with orcs make differences like recruiting them might make for good gameplay, but it's sure at odds with J. R. R. Tolkien's writing.

Then again, his writing premises the world being destroyed if Sauron gets a ring he made - which back when he did have it, he was stopped by the swing of a sword.

meh, looks like Batman in Middle Earth to me. Lots of people love the Batman games so this should appeal to them, unfortunately I'm not one of them.

This had potential, but this doesn't really fit middle-earth in my opinion. That said, if you could customize weapons and armor (somewhat like Dark Souls 2) then I'd probably pick this up. But if you wear rags, have the same weapon move sets through the entire game... Yeah, pretty weak. Not to say it wouldn't be fun for a time without those things, but I doubt the nemesis system is as great as the video makes it out to be.

I'll wait for one or two reviews. But this is pretty cool looking with the nemesis, hopefully they integrate some kind of item/progress system. I think the non-cannon open world Middle Earth universe could always use more games. I think Tolkien would like it that way for his mythology after his death.

Eh I'm not sure tolkien would really like it, I mean the game looks really cool and fun but reading about the game it sounds like you eventually get to take on sauron which is kind of ridiculous for some random assassin guy. It's cool in a way because you get to fight sauron but feels like it's just a middle earth themed game as opposed to something feels like it could exist in the same world as the books.

Looks pretty awesome to me. It may not be in the "spirit" of the books but it has some interesting and seemingly unique ideas. I'd check it out.

Not the game specifically, true. I feel like he'd be fan of the mythology expanding. His son obviously isn't which is why you see so little cannon LotR content out there. But Tolkien just seemed to want to create a mythology that gave his languages a place to live.

That's just what I meant in my glimpse review, looks like it could be a fun game but being in LOTR gave it an odd feeling. It could be 99% the same and just called as being in another world and would probably be better.
