Before I got shadow strike, I threw daggers at them. It causes them to go into an animation and I could catch up. Tapping the grapple button also kind of sling shots you forward, so when I got close I'd mash on it.

Prior to all this (Shadow Strike/Kill is my preferred way to move across the map, much less chase down enemies), no one uses the snare with the bow? That's what I used for a good while (unless they were immune to ranged, which wasn't as common with lower level captains).

I do this, but some of them are immune to ranged, so you can't.

I am so frustrated with the camera in this game. I was just fighting a warchief, I had to burn 5 of his supporters and it took me an hour to get that all setup, warchief turns up, I use his fear of carragors against him and he runs. I give chase and the moment I do so the camera is convinced I need to look at my left ear. I am constantly trying to correct the camera and chase this guy through like 100 orks trying to dodge and everything else, in the end some dude I couldn't see got a blow on me because of the stupid camera. That was really frustrating, I had that war chief near dead and running for his life, all I needed was one opportunity but the camera was just all over the shop. Grrrrrrrr.

I just started playing and the camera is irking me already. I must be doing something wrong as I never seem to be facing the enemy.

So rotate the camera. You have control of the camera ~99% of the time in this game.

However, I will say there definitely are some issues when you're fighting next to walls or in small enclosed spaces. There have been a few occasions when I couldn't see the enemy I'm fighting because of camera collision issues. Fortunately these are uncommon enough to not bother me too much.

The other minor issue I have with this game is that sometimes the controls are fighting me rather than helping me; particularly when climbing or descending buildings. But other than that I'm still having a ton of fun with this game. Will probably beat it by the end of the week.

Yep - I love doing somersaults next to a wall when your trying to CLIMB the wall, not do a funky break-dance to attract attention. But over all it is a entertaining game. also noticed the guys you brand get their butts kicked against the regular Orc's. Seems like you need about 3 or 4 to 1 for them to hold their own.

This game looks pretty decent but I don't know if it will hold my attention for too long. I am holding out for Steam sales. Probably pick it up once it is around 25% off. I would have preordered when it was available for sale but too many times burned. Oh well, I have too many unplayed games already anyways.

I finally finished this game tonight. (Did not 100% it, but I did do a fair amount of side-content. Steam says it took me ~18 hours.)

Overall I really enjoyed it. It was light on story, the boss-fights were meh, and the ending wasn't anything special, but the real star of this game is the combat and abilities. I could slaughter crowds of orcs and send heads flying all day. And the fights with the warchiefs were legitimately intense, some of those fights were EXTREMELY grueling and my hands were all gross and sweaty by the time I managed to kill some of them.

There were some frustrating moments, some due to the game, but many also due to my own incompetence. Overall though this game is worth the $30 I payed for it, and unless something else unexpected happens in the next two months, I will definitely label this my "surprise game" of 2014. Really great.

I'm well over 40 hours in and 37% done.
I just finally left the first map area with the lady and met up with her mom, the queen or whatever.
I've been exploring everywhere, looking at stuff, enjoying the combat, riding the carabors or whatever they are called, and screwing around a lot.

I've found a captain who counterattacks every hit I make, has a poisoned weapon, is immune to ranged and stealth, and not afraid of the dogs or flies. Basically his only weakness is finishing move. Oh, and he can pick you up and throw you and take 1/2 your life and has reinforcements. He's basically unkillable in the castle I'm in.

My strategy for those guys was alway to find a good perch and kill every Orc surrounding the captain with arrows. You probably need one of those runes that refills your focus bar with every head shot to do it in one go. You can also get runes that will return some elf shot too if you don't have enough to take them all. You should try to take them all without going out of focus mode because that makes sure none of them see you and make a break for the alarm thing. Then hop down, stun him, flurry until you have enough hit streak for a finisher, 2x finisher, and then repeat. The key is the stun, because he won't counterattack while stunned.

Yeah, there's a ton of side-content in the game, and people who are going for 100% completion are usually reporting will over 30 hours to do it. Which is totally cool. The good news is, even after you beat the main storyline, you are still free to play around in the map and get collectables and do side-missions.

I would probably spend more time in the game if there wasn't other stuff I wanted to play too.

You think that's bad? Near the end of the game (without spoiling too much), I needed to fight this warchief so I could brand him and put him under my power. He was invulnerable to regular attacks, stealth, ranged, vaulting, and finishing moves, and to top it off, he had a poison spear that was really annoying.

I did eventually discover he was vulnerable to fire, but I unfortunately did not have fire arrows at my disposal (which I'm not sure would have worked anyway, since he's invulnerable to ranged) and there wasn't enough stuff in the camp to blow up. I probably ran around spinning my wheels and kiting a few dozen orcs for 15 minutes before finally realizing he was slightly vulnerable to wraith flashes, until I widdled his health down enough for him to retreat.

When he started running away, I chased his ass down and we were almost on the other side of the map when I finally, somehow managed to widdle down his health enough to the point where I could dominate him. It was out in the middle of a field somewhere, far away from when I initially started fighting him. One of the most grueling fights I've ever had in any game ever. I was on the verge of death multiple times and the whole ordeal probably took ~20 minutes or so.

So I just finished it as well, it says 31 hrs for 100%, and truthfully it could have been a few hours less as I had tried to do the achievements as well, only have about 4 of those left, but am pleased with it. Might try to get the reset of the achievements might be the only game that I got them all. Also I have the season pass so will try the challenges as well

All in all I rather liked the game but dont really see how the can do a sequel. Your main targets are dead and its not like you can go on to kill Sauron. Talion does make a comment at the end which I don't think fits the lore but not a hard core middle-earth to know if it would fit or not.

Did anybody go back to the first map - if you did were there any consequences regarding the enemy army in the second area when you returned? I have 3/4th of them dominated in the second area and don't want to leave only to return an find that the captains/warchiefs that are currently dominated are replaced. I just noticed the icon at he bottom of the second map to return to the first map. I think it would be fun to go back and get that area dominated as well before going to the final missions. I dont know the ending- but assume you end of fighting Souron and his army - so if they are all dominated - that would be fun.

Ok I'm a dummy, where/how can you control the camera? I just see camera sensitivity settings and those didn't really help me out.

I saw a FoV hack on the net but didn't try that out.

Assuming you're using a controller, it's the right thumbstick.

If you're using a mouse and keyboard, I'm not so sure. But I imagine you would use the mouse to control the camera, like every other third-person game on PC. Am I wrong?

I'm using KB/Mouse. The mouse buttons are are for attack and defend. When you originally said rotate the camera I was thinking the same, hold both buttons and spin the mouse, but it doesn't do anything. Mouse wheel doesn't do anything either, would have figured it would zoom in and out.

I'll have to check the controller options, maybe there's a key I can bind for the camera.

I just fired up the game and tried playing with the KB+M controls. My suspicions were correct; I can control the camera simply by moving the mouse.

No buttons need to be held down or anything. Just move the mouse and the camera will move. Can you confirm whether this is the case for you or not? That's really bizarre if you're camera control is broken. Perhaps the game is glitched.

I had my first war chief in the second area that I had to kill his captains before I was able to take him out. Had four guys surrounding him at all times. I tracked them all down individually and converted two of them and killed the other two. The fight was then trivial. Tons of fun doing the set up, all of it being unguided by the game. I love how much freedom the game gives you to complete the objectives.

I did hit my first point where I was frustrated. I was fighting the captains and war chief all together the first time and it kept cutting away from the action so a captain could say something. With 5 named guys, it was very jarring having to hear each one talk to me of 10-15s while I was in the middle of a tense fight. I wish you could skip their dialog.

Well .. the crashes are getting annoying ...

I crashed while overclocking the GPUs. I set it to default and haven't had any crashes. Sometimes the rain effects mess up, but I think its an in-game bug.

I think I conveyed my 'problem' wrong.

The camera works, but for me it's annoying. It's too close and since I'm being all stealth like it keeps screwing up as I'm tight to buildings and other surroundings. Plus when I engage in fighting and it cuts in with dialog it messes me all up and I die. I just wish the camera wasn't right on top of me and a little less sensitive.

It doesn't help any that my eyefinity has me down to 2 monitors and the action is split to 2 screens with the boarder right in the diddle.

I sort of agree regarding the proximity of the camera to the character, it's rather very close. When you hide in bushes, however, it zooms a little back, and that small zoom out would be a perfect default viewing distance from the character in my opinion. I don't think that the current distance is game breaking, it's nothing serious (not to me anyway) but it does get annoying sometimes.
