If you are interested, you could get the game at GreenManGaming with 25% off voucher,9I47I9-ZOM38L-ZGV9KW, which activates on steam, and then if you want the Season Pass for it, its on sale (30% off) on Steam

I might be doing that tomorrow as I am interest in the game

FYI - Steam won't let you buy the season pass without having the base game activated. As GMG doesn't transmit the activation keys until the release date in many cases, this may mean that you will miss the steam sale on the season pass.

I haven't been gaming much myself, but still wonder sometimes what is going on in LOTRO these days.

Used to have multiples there I'd break out again ever few years, that thing has really been a run on over time.

Watched the new gameplay video and was kind of dissapointed. Looks like a game I would have played when I was 15 years old...

You can buy the Season's Pass as a gift and have it sent to your own inventory. That's what I did. Once the GMG codes release you can just apply it to your own Steam library.

Very clever. Thanks for the tip.

Tolkien just screams out for game makers who make genre games but want a license to draw in customers - not a good combination.

I think a good Tolkien game would try to make the gameplay fit the stories, not just change the skins. I'm not sure that'll happen.

Even Peter Jackson took some pretty good sized liberties to make the stories 'work' for his movies, though they were mostly faithful.

When I see a Tolkien game with hit point bars and graphic rings for combat, it seems to fit the issue I'm raising.

Not that it's easy. Do you just make the game play out the story?

It's not easy to compete with the book. J. K. Rowling wanted Terry Gilliam to make the Harry Potter movies - how different would that have been?

Well the real issue in most book to movie adaptations is the fact that a 2 hour movie script is about 100-130 pages of text, but books are typically 200-400 pages (more for some, I can only imagine someone trying to make Cryptonomicon into a movie, the book is 918 pages, and essentially 2-3 story lines that all converge even though one of them is playing out 50-60 years before the others). As such, there is a lot that needs to be cut. Now grant it, some of it is descriptive text, which will be done simply by showing the scene, but there is only so much of that to be removed. You are still typically left with about an hour or so of footage that would need to be cut even from smaller 200-300 page books.

I am not concerned with whether the game is true to the series to be honest. I think it is okay to create non cannon material that uses a world you know to make a game.

Tolkien was mostly interested in languages and created the world for them. He happened to become basically the father of Fantasy while he was at it. Dungeons and Dragons was heavily based on his work and in turn has inspired a lot of similar fantasy games.

The game appears to have some promise. I definitely will pay attention to it but not a first day purchase for me. Will be interested to see what others think of it on release.

He was very much into languages, but his intent with Middle-Earth was to supply myths he felt England was missing, that other countries had, like old Norse mythology, as I recall.

If Tolkien and fantasy writing were the mother of D&D, it had a father as well - pen and paper wargames. It was the same wargamers who made D&D.

I was really excited at first, but the more I learn, it seems too muck like a fighting game than an RPG, which is what I was hoping for. Nothing g wrong with that, just not my type of game. It has some interesting concepts though. And yes, the system requirements are insane. Hopefully it won't be an unoptimized mess like watchdogs.

That's what is holding me back,I also hope Lords of fallen which is out end of October is more RPG then fighting,in the mean time I've Wasteland 2 to play.

I'll still keep an eye on this game however.

I'm actually happy to see that this will not likely be a sloppy console port. The 6gb vram requirement remains to be seen. I'll see if my 980 SLI can handle this

So what are they trying to do, force people to buy a Titan? Those who were decrying the stagnant PC system requirements are getting the higher requirements they asked for in spades. Hope the quality of the games is worth it. This could either help PC gaming by making the experience better, or hurt it badly by making the hardware requirements so high that many go back to consoles to play the latest games. I know personally, I will just go forego the latest graphical intense games and play older games if this kind of trend continues/

I could see developers now, "Look at how few people bought our game. Looks like it is not worth it to develop for PC." Well, what do you expect if you require a thousand dollar video card to play at max settings?

Yea, especially considering the outrageous system requirements, this is looking more and more like a Steam sale purchase to me. Looking at the vram requirements, since I have a HD7770, looks like I will be required to play on low. WTF

Even though I have a POS machine that can't play games from 5 years ago on max, I'm happy to see the requirements going up. I think it might force the developers to have to make a choice between PC and console instead of a compromise for both. Maybe once it is obvious that consoles are lightyears behind we will get more exclusives.

Looks intriguing, but that VRAM requirement for ultra textures is absurd. "I'm so glad I bought this $1,000 graphics card so I could play games at 1080P" said no one ever. Do developers really think people are going to come back to their games 5 years down the road when the hardware to run it maxed actually exists even though 5 years from now games will inevitably look better, high resolution textures notwithstanding? At a certain point, offering additional features becomes stupid, and that point is when none of your customers can actually access said feature.

I'm starting to get in this camp. After Watch Dogs and now the system requirements on this... I'm pretty set on focusing on my PS4 these days. My GTX570 just isn't going to cut it if these requirements are like this.

This looks pretty good - better than I expected it to. The reviews are generally strong. Might pick this one up on a steam sale next year if I run out of games to play.
