So far I'm finding Intel to be pretty worthless except to know where they are in the first place.

Knowing their strengths and weaknesses ahead of time really doesn't matter, just saves you a few seconds of trial and error.

Knowing their weakness that makes them run away is useful.... so I don't do it by mistake and make them run away lol..

Exactly. Some of the weaknesses you're not even in control. I was fighting a captain and all of a sudden a Caragor jumps in the frey. Well, the captain is afraid of them and turns and runs. Now, I have to run after him and hope he doesn't escape.

It's often, but not always like that. Later in the game Combat Master Uruk show up, and they're completely immune to all melee. If you happen to run into one that's immune to missile attacks as well while in a fortress on alert, you're in a pickle. And while I've never seen one, stealth/melee/ranged immunes may exist, in which case knowing you're going to need a caragor or troll would save you a major headache.

And don't ignore the benefits of their fears. Once you gut the wraith-warp attacks, tracking down a flee captain is easy, and their immunities sometimes fail when they're afraid.

quick question.

is this a FPS? MMO type, RPG? or a game like assassins creed?

it does get a little overwhelming in the beginning... so much that I bought it, played it for 10 minutes, haven't touched it again :-(

It's really not an overwhelming game though, not by a long shot. And I consider myself pretty dumb.

Learning how the abilities tree works is pretty simple; buying upgrades is easy; the map is small, the objectives are clearly laid out, and the combat is about as button-mashy as can possibly be. Stealth takes maybe a few minutes to master... but no more. (Turns out, orcs are really dumb enemies.)

That's not to say it's a bad game... it most certainly isn't, I'm playing it now and having a blast. But After 30 minutes of playtime you pretty much understand all of the systems in the game.

Don't get discouraged too quickly. I can't stand the Assassin's Creed games, but I love Shadow of Mordor. It takes the one good thing from AC (the movement system) but everything else is different.

My first time playing it I was getting destroyed, and frustrated. I went back to it again and figured out how to play it. My problem was that it felt like the batman and AC games where you could rush in and take on mobs easily. This isn't the same, and once you start figuring out how to tackle it you should have more fun.

I dunno, less than half way through the game you are an unstoppable uruk killing machine.

I feel the bow is extremely overpowered. Presented with a huge horde to kill, they are all dead before they can take 2 steps. It's a good thing that many captains and such are immune to ranged.

I didn't like assassins creed either. This game is much better than that IMO. It's just that the way you can move and the way combat works is very similar. I like the arc your character makes as you pile on upgrades and abilities. You start out feeling underpowered and in constant danger of dying. By the end you'll confidently wade into any fight nearly certain you're going to clean house.

Does anybody know/remember when the "brand" power opens up - just started the second area. I am trying to not kill many captains or any Warchiefs in the second area in hopes of branding all of them.

To start just mash the melee button and point your character in the direction you want to attack. Hit the prompts when they show up. When you get surrounded jump over a few backs to get into a clearing. Eventually you'll learn to use executions, which help a lot. That should get you through half the game without a problem.

If you get low on health run away and find a plant to eat then go back in. You can always run away.

The 2nd or 3rd mission for the queen in that area.

One of the most frustrating parts of this game is when you're fighting a captain, and when they're health gets down low enough and you're about to deliver a fatal blow, they retreat, and they start running away like a little bitch. So then you're running across half the map chasing after a captain who is too pussy to fight you any longer, and worse, they're invulnerable to ranged; so you just keep chasing them hoping that you'll get close enough to grab them and stab them to death. lol

Usually I can pull it off, but sometimes they climb over a hill or something as you're chasing them, and as soon as I lose sight of them they successfully despawn and escape. Ugh.

Once you unlock shadow strike they'll never get away again. In fact you'll be quite pleased to see a captain cut and run because you can watch him until he puts a little distance between himself and the rest of the orcs in the fight, and then close the distance instantly to brand/interrogate/kill him free of distractions.

Oh man... I'm so dumb. I totally unlocked this ability a few missions ago and never thought to use it. I'm bad at remembering to use new abilities.

Yeah. I will definitely use that from now on.

Before I got shadow strike, I threw daggers at them. It causes them to go into an animation and I could catch up. Tapping the grapple button also kind of sling shots you forward, so when I got close I'd mash on it.

That's a tremendously useful ability for more then just catching escaping captains, especially once you get the insta-kill version of it. It's range is basically equivalent to your range of sight, so it can cover distances very, very fast.

By the end of the game I was annoyed if there wasn't an orc standing where I wanted to go, because that meant I had to actually walk.
