Just started playing about an hour ago. Tried going after the first red guy it gives me to kill, I die fast because I don't have any Intel on him. Still haven't killed any red guys but some huge Troll did kill one of the yellows, unfortunately I didn't get any XP but still got a Rune from it. You definitely need Intel.

This game has got kind of a weird feel to it at first. I died all the time for a little while, and then it started clicking some. This one captain killed me 4 times and was becoming a real badass. Then I killed him, or I thought I did. Later I met him again all bandaged up but stronger, and I killed him again. Then he came back stronger, and I killed him again. The last time he showed up he was level 17 and had a list of strengths like 12 items long, but I still killed him again. It's going to be hilarious if he shows up another time.

This nemesis system thing really works though. The last time I killed that one captain it was starting to feel personal.

I really like your story about the captain SlitheryDee, enough so it makes me want to set up my gaming environment and purchase this as my first game to play.

I was reading on Kotaku that just because you defeat them in battle, it doesn't necessarily mean they are dead. You need to execute the to make sure they are actually dead.

The beginning of the game was kind of difficult. It doesn't hold your hand, the beginning just barely introduces you to what's going on gameplay wise. You basically have to learn by playing. Now that I played even more I'm really liking it. Getting the hang out of everything really makes it better.

If you've finished TLOU then I'd say yes but if you haven't then wait.
I haven't, but it's really boring and I haven't enjoyed it at all. Once I got diablo 3 I actually had fun playing a game again and haven't wanted to go back to TLOU

Screw it, I did it

I'm getting my ass kicked, which on one hand is frustrating but on another it makes it feel less of an AC or Batman clone. I never worried about mobs in those games and it was easy to kill everybody. It's much easier to get overwhelmed here, which it should because I'm just starting out.

Yup, in Batman or AC it was easy to kill everyone, this game, I've died multiple times which actually has real consequences since new guys get promoted and get stronger and the existing captains get even stronger. It's really cool. Enemy captains will run away if they are about to die, stuff like that. They remember your last fight and mention it when trying to fight them again.

The Nemesis system really is the next best thing in Action gaming. It's going to be the next big thing this new generation.

When I die, it's generally because I got overwhelmed by numbers and picked off by low level peons throwing spears at me

And yes, I really like the nemesis system. It makes it a little more personal even if overall there is not much variety in combat. And nothing like fighting one when 2 more happen to show up with a vengeance!

Shh...I'm not done with getting Madden Achievements, so I'm not ready to trade it in for this game yet. Talk badly about it, so I'm not tempted for a couple more weeks.

Going back for another try and I'm dying less. Now I can recognize when I'm going to be screwed before it's too late, and I can run away to catch my breath and maybe pick off a few of them with a bow. I like that only a small amount of health will regen when you get out of trouble, otherwise it'd be easy to abuse.

My only complaint (as has been mentioned) is that the enemies respawn too fast. I don't get a big sense of accomplishment because the ranks pretty much restock themselves immediately so there aren't any "safe zones". Maybe I'm just clinging onto those mechanics from other games so I just notice when they're different, but it's a small annoyance.

A positive thing is that if you die during a mission, you can just replay from a checkpoint. So whatever captain you may have been hunting won't rank up like if you died during free roam and you just try again. In these early stages when I'm dying a lot I appreciate not having to redo everything because I got tagged with a spear.

Hehe, yep. You know you need to get out of Dodge when one of them blows a horn. One captain keeps managing to show up in mob fights and kill me and/or survive. He's become quite the powerful asshole.

I do kinda wish retreating captains were faster or had better means of escape. It's a little too easy to catch up and kill them, especially when they run away from the mob rather than into it for protection.

I've encountered some Captains that have retreating as one of their strengths. That mofo was fast as hell. Most are slow though.

I finally killed one captain than I encountered three times. I finally cut off his head though but he remembered every encounter. It was really cool. You really do have to make sure you properly kill them or else they just keep coming back.

Does anyone know what type of PC/video card is required in order to perform better than the PS4 version?

You need a 6GB GPU to run on Ultra settings.

The PS4 version doesn't look bad at all because it's basically a PS3 game with better textures. Not really a next-gen stunner.

I can run at medium/high on a 2GB 660Ti.

Jesus, this game is awesome. I was hunting down a Warchief last night in one of the stronghold areas. I stealthily killed all of the archers in the area, let loose three caragors (the prereq for getting the Warchief to show).

Warchief comes out and has a Captain strolling behind him. I think, "What the hell? I killed all of his bodyguards beforehand." I don't really care, because I can destroy a Warchief and one Captain easily, especially with no archers or support in the area. I try a ranged attack on both...both immune. I try a stealth kill on the captain...immune.

Turns out, he was a Captain I thought I had previously killed, but he wasn't dead. He laughs in my face as he uses his strength to call for backup in the form of Beserkers, Hunters and Defenders. Shit.

Then the Warchief laughs in my face and calls for backup in the support of...another Captain, who in turn laughs in my face. Now, instead of a Warchief and one Captain, I have to face a Warchief, two captains and an army of Beserkers, Hunters, and Defenders.

Then, out of nowhere, a freaking "hunter" Captain appears, laughs in my face and calls for support in the form of archers and regular Uruks. I'm frantically running, jumping, stunning, climbing buildings, dodging spears just trying to stay alive and wondering how the hell this turned from a two-man take down to a full on army.

Then, the fourth Captain shows up. Now I'm really pissed and wonder how long this can keep going. I'm running around like crazy and finally manage to separate the Warchief from the rest of the Captains, though he does have a few Defenders and Beserkers around him. So, I do the only thing I can do and pray that it works.

I drop down from the building I'm perched on and start attacking the Warchief. He immediately calls for back up and I can see the red arrows on the mini-map start heading my way. With a singular focus, I attack the Warchief only stopping to counter incoming blows. This helps up my hit streak, which I turn into nothing but combat executions aimed at the Warchief. Time is growing short as I see four Captain icons approaching from all sides, but the Warchief is now left with 1/4 health.

As the four Captains close in, I leap over one, stunning him, dodge a second, counter the incoming blow of a regular Uruk which gets my hit streak to 5 and perform a final combat execution on the Warchief....dead. Epic sword rune.

25 minute battle. Awesomeness.

 Excellent story, and nicely portrays my experiences as well. It's a lot of fun how fast you can go from "I got this." to "Oh shit!" in this game.

So I just completed a challenge for some monies, being dropped into an arena and having to kill 50 orcs, with the bonus task requiring a 100 combo streak.

After a couple of attempts I pulled it off, I think 106 streak before completing it.

Not that long, just every time a range hits you it breaks the chain streak and it resets the counter. So hits come in around 1 per 2-3 seconds, quicker if closer targets and slower if its a parry/counter.
It requires paying a lot of attention to all the targets around you, you cannot miss a single counter/parry, and with range attackers constantly harrassing you need to be tumbling around to throw off their line of sight.
