Game sounds really sweet, but I can tell by some of your stories, that it is going to be too hard for me. It will only end in frustration, and a possible broken controller.

I was reading on Kotaku that just because you defeat them in battle, it doesn't necessarily mean they are dead. You need to execute the to make sure they are actually dead.

A couple of different things seem to work. If you take a captain down using their instant-kill weaknesses they seem to stay dead. Otherwise you just have to make sure that the last move you do on a captain is some form of execution. Either a combat execution or ground execution should work. I guess if you got his health down low enough any other one-hit kill move should count as an execution as well if he's vulnerable to it. Some captains will take damage from stealth attacks even if it doesn't kill them, so if you stealth attacked while a captain was low on health that should be an execution as well. Same goes with the lethal version of shadow strike.

Edit: Another possible way to execute a captain that seems invulnerable to everything might be to use normal strikes and wraith flashes to get their health into the green, then grab them and shank them to death.

You can still finish them. You just have to make sure that when you have their health down that you finish them with a combat or ground execution instead of just regular sword strikes.

Yup it else they keep coming back. Head three encounters with one captain that I "defeated" three times.

I'm enjoying this game a lot. At first I sucked at the combat but it's nothing hard after you learn to block properly. I usually hate walking into captain fights randomly.

Yup, I found one I had no Intel on but I was like what the heck and did a jump down stealth kill on him and instant death. Tried it again on another random captain and he was immune.

How's the open world aspect?

Is this a game like Fallout/Skyrim that you can just get lost in and make your own story?

Or is it more linear-open world like an Assassin's Creed?

It plays more like assassin's creed story wise. The gameplay I feel is better though.

I could never get those to work on captains. It works on everyone else.

Sometimes an execution may "appear" to not work if you go by the Captain's animation. Even when the captain looks like he parries your blow, if you look at his health bar you'll see that he still takes damage. The only times they won't land is when the captain has combat mastery, which you'll see appearing on the screen in large letters when you attempt an execution. The captains with the combat master strength are very rare though.

I could not get into assassin's creed 4 gameplay (that's the only AC game I've played before, though). I hope to get into shadows of Mordor once I set it up.

What was the Wal-Mart deal? I ended up trading in 2k14 along with thief and assassins creed for shadow of mordor. If I had known I would have traded in 2k14 at Wal-Mart for the new one. I guess I'll wait for a price drop on the new model.

I want to try MyCareer in 2k15. The graphics in the reviews look sick. I'll be picking it up for PS4 though.

Im liking it quite a bit and I'm not very far in the game either. I'm not sure how much effect the upgrades have on the character either.

I'm also going to pick up evil within tomorrow if decent reviews show up..although if it's scarier than outlast I'm not sure how far I will get in that game. It will probably take me a long time to finish if the tension is high.

They did a deal where it was giving you a 50% trade bonus on games when you traded them towards NBA 2K15. I did it multiple times, trading something like $285 in games for over $500. I think I walked out of that with NBA 2K15 and something like $475 in Wal-Mart credit. Took it, bought Madden for $40 (after trading it to them for $60), traded that to Best Buy for $42, and got Shadow of Mordor for $52 (thanks to GCU).

I am going to wait on evil within. I was planning to get it on PC but they said some crap about 30fps and a specific aspect ratio was made for the game and they won't support any tweaks to change that. I feel that is kind of BS so I am not going to get it at full price.

I'm picking it up for ps4 because I can't play those type of games on pc. I'm more comfortable sitting on my couch being scared lol.

Actually you can change it to run on 60fps according to the devs with a command line edit in one of the files. I'm not sure about the aspect ratio though for pc.

Yeah but they added the caveat that they won't support it if there are problems. Meaning there will probably be framing and performance issues and they won't fix them. Luckily this game does not have the same fate.
