midiland S4 8200 humming

I got the midiland s4 8200 5.1 home speaker system and it rocks; but there is a hum at low volumes. Like in scenes in dvd's that are only using the center channel you hear this hum coming off the other channels. I pinpionted it to interferce coming off the other componets (ie..Dvd decoder, and tv.) Has anybody else had this problem? I have tried wraping the wires in foil, didn't work. I have ordered the optical module made by creative labs. I am gonna try to use the dx3r decoder and pass the ac-3 signal through my sound blaster live and then through the optical module. This should in theory get rid of the interference, but it's gonna be a mater of wether or not the dx3r and the sb live want to do that. Does any one have any ideas?

not sure about the s4 8200s, but when i emailed midiland tech support about my s2 4100, they told me thi is due to high output amp they use to power the speakers. with proper speaker placement, the hiss shouldnt be audible anyway...

Just got the S4-8200. The humming sound is pissing me off. This sucks big time. I am returning this piece of crap back unless there is a solution to the humming sound.
I don't see how I can watch the movie without being pissed with the humming sound.

humming on the s4-8200...welcome to the club. always have had it, always will....

There is a solution. it all has to do with the metal on the computer. the s4's are picking up high fequency noise off the computer through the metal it connects to. I sloved this problem by getting a optical daughter card for my sound blaster live! this solve my problem immediatly.

Hmmm I have the S4 8200 and I don't have any humming at all, but when my cell phone rings, boy does the interference get loud...

I have a 5.1 Live! Platinum, connected to the S4 8200 using only optical SPDIF.

It's because you are using the optical.

I spoke to the tech guy from Midiland. They said that the humming sound will be gone if I use the optical cable. The interference came from the cabling, etc. So I am getting an optical cable to see if it works. If it does'nt, this baby is going back.

Optical is better anyways, you get a cleaner signal and there's no electricity invovled (so no surge problems) as you would have with single RCA coaxial.

Just hooked up the S/PDIF optical cable to the S4-8200. It works ! The humming sound is gone now ! That's great. Now I can concentrate on the movies instead of the humming sound.

I bought the Acoustic Research HT181 optical cable. It is a good cable as far as I know. The sound is so much better than my usual RCA connection.

Optical is optical, your generic TOSlink cable at Wall-Mart will do the job.
