My good friend devnull pointed me to a new browser game, Might & Magic: Heroes Kingdoms. I've only played for an hour or so, but it looks very promising. In the tradition of Ikariam (and other browser games), I invite ATOT to jump in and dominate the world!

Might and Magic: Heroes Kingdoms

The above link is a referral for thecoolnessrune and should put you close to the rest of us. If you don't want to use it for whatever reason, feel free to go straight to the game.

When you create your account you get to choose a faction, which will determine your power balance between fighting/economy/magic, and what kind of units you get. Here's an overview of each faction in case you want more info.

Drag and drop these 4 links, they don't work otherwise.

Haven (Knights)
Academy (Mages)
Inferno (Demons)
Necropolis (Undead)

This game looks much deeper than some of the others we've played. Besides 3 basic resources (wood, ore, gold), there are 4 rare resources and your town only has one, so you'll need to trade or pillage to get other resources. In addition to your basic units, you have heroes which gain experience and skills. Even better, there are victory conditions that allow an alliance to WIN, instead of just endless war that goes on and on. If it isn't too buggy, it could be extremely good. Come check it out!

what's the time commitment like

So far it seems like the pace is relatively slow, so not a whole lot. Though it's interesting that when building a building, you can trade extra resources for time (and vice-versa) to some extent.

Mosh you were not the only one thinking it was the M&Ms.... I was trying to figure out what M&M has to do with Heroes Kingdom...

I went for the gold mine first (the tutorial suggested this) then the sawmill. They had the weakest monster strength. It's kind of funny that you have to conquer your mines before you can use them. Plus there's a bunch of creatures hanging around outside your town to kill. I guess that's a good thing since there's a 15-day newbie protection period.

Here's an answer to this question from one of the game's producers, from an interview on the site (see the Community/News section):

Q: Counter the argument that Heroes Kingdoms’ game pace is too slow and provide some background thought on time balancing within the game.

FC: From the start of the project, we decided to transfer the Heroes of M&M experience to the web. That meant providing a game where your strategic experience and decisions were far reaching and had many consequences, and where you were required to consider all elements in the balance. This is why most of the actions inside the game, like attacking a city or creating a building, take a few hours to a couple of days to complete. Another important point is the media itself. Browsing the web is a very frequent and short experience. This is opposed to very long experiences, typical of most MMOs. MMHK translates into 2 or 3 connections per day, with about 5 to 10 minutes of session time each login. You pop in, check the results of your actions and decide what to do next. Before logging in again, you consider your strategy and talk with your allies. Your new orders will take this strategy into account. We also wanted to take into account players who would be unable to connect for a few days. We didn’t want them to login after perhaps a weekend away to find their kingdom completely destroyed. The time pace and playing inside an alliance provide a great comfort to continue playing without interfering with your social life. Finally, the game pace is designed to take all possible players deeper into the experience. When you start to manage 2 or more cities, the number of actions you have to take care of increases very fast. When you start a full-scale war you will feel the heat of battle!

Holy cow, I didn't know anyone was still playing that. Any idea what happened to the dailysum forums, they seem to be gone?

I guess safeway finally took them down. I stopped using it after a while.

There are still a handfull of us still playing ika.

Ahh I'm in. I can't deny my love for HOMM.

Will have to check it out. Now that I have my 10th town in Ikariam, it seems pointless. Think I'll go all out in the next war and see how many troops I can get for 59 million gold.

That's the beauty of this game, you can WIN.

I'll look around for you guys and try to issue some more alliance invitations when I get a chance later. You might want to post your player and city name if it's not obvious.

I'm right next door to you Pheran. Necros rule! Man, this is just like HOMM. I should really stop before I load that game up again. That sucked so many hours of my life away.
