Bah, I already put my research towers in the inner slots. How do forts work? Might just tear down the towers if it makes a big difference.

I don't think it's a big difference.

Forts help to prevent pillaging, and are only effective when they touch a mine. So the inner ring lets forts touch two mines, and thus is ideal.

Research towers only affect one mine (at least in your first city) and thus can be safely placed in the outer ring.

when I looked at it this morning, it said "half full"

could be there's some sort of sponsor limit?


also, just retrieved an item from fighting on outer ring--some horse harness that I wear on my chest that increases gold.

once worn, these items are bound to that hero. To unbind, you drag to the hero's backpack...which takes FOUR DAYS.

lol wtf.

this is not making sense to me...

i just had a 8 round battle. i sent out 35 skeletons in the first round, expecting to barely win, then lose the remainder in the next round. 2 of them survived to the 2nd round where they were beaten and my next stack stepped in. i see -33 and -2 in the first two rounds, but then when i look at the battle summary, it says i only lost 10 of 35, and indeed my hero did bring back 25.

are those - numbers we see during the battle accounting for injuries or something? anyone else see this and can explain?

Yeah you only lose 30% of the "losses" during battle.

Think of it, as you stated, as injuries.

Unless you run into a barbarian hero.

Yea, I've actually looked up HOMM 5 on Amazon, only $5. Seems it's available on Steam too. The games were fun.

Should Knight and Barbarian be the same hero? Seems the guy for defense should help pick up scouts too. I already have one stay at home hero that's builder/architect/merchant.

I had originally written something wrong in response to your point about the barbarian hero.

But what you wrote about Barbarian Heroes/Knight heroes affecting after battle losses is correct.

I don't think it's a bad idea to have Barbarian and Knight on the same hero, but I have no experience with it either.

I think we've all made plenty of mistakes with this, and will make plenty more.

nevermind figured it out. its the amount of a unit available for recruiting every day. if it was previously 15, now its 16

I believe it means that if usually you are able to recruit 15 imps every day for example, you are now able to recruit 16. More powerful for those units with low units per day. But valuable early on too, because it seems people are at least a little bit hamstrung by small army size.

Yup, one of my heroes has the Charismatic Leader skill, it is handy for getting a few more troops.

just started improving my gold mine to 5 (or was it upgrade, whichever is the more expensive/costly). Will then be the last that I do (till leader gets more XP) and then on to boost the other mines which are at 2s. Should have plenty of gold to get more usefull buildigns and recruitment going then to finish off my outer lane.

no problem. That put me over the 5K trading and I got the 6K for the quest

I recommend upgrading to town hall. Not too bad gold wise, 9 hours though. You get increased gold plus it unlocks more unit production buildings. They are kinda expensive but I think the more troop options you have the better.

Anyone know about pillaging? It seems you can't attack the town just the mines and other areas. Do yo steal from their supply or from the mine, which then doesn't produce for awhile?

Dammit I have to resort to selling ore and stuff in the market.

What is a good time to sell rare resources?

Put it up for action at a price between what the merchant offers for buying and selling. If it doesn't sell then you might want to wait for the bonus (~20%) to show up for that resource. Definitely don't want to sell when the resource is undervalued.

how epic slow is this game? how can it keep attention being so slow

Just have to play it the right away and take it for what it is. Log in and see what you can do, take 5 minutes and do it. See when one or 2 things will end and come back then.
