I got into the closed beta (or was it alpha?) early on. I found it to be quite creative and entertaining. I have not played in a while, but the idea of building up your own castle to have other try and survive it is pretty cool.

I looked into it.

I nearly gave up when I noticed it needs uplay (ubisoft) to run.

But I bought into the beta and found the game OK to start.

The more I played the more I felt put off by the game. Sure it is beta, but some bugs still exist and the worst thing in that given how most people seem to setup their castles, you have zero chance of completing a castle in the allocated time. Which makes the feel of the game bad for someone with a slight issue of wanting 3 out of 3 stars for each level challenged.

The items you need to pay for (ie: speeding up production / upgrades) means to play a game takes a lot of time or a lot of (real) money. But given the money has to be gotten at a small piece at a time, affording upgrades (at level 9 currently, need 6000 to upgrade the castle) takes a while when picking up 3 and 5 gold per creature kill.

I just can not see this game being worth playing long term. It is more of a rainly weekend, then forgetting about it.

Item drop is basically pointless (so far) as the only way to have a chance to complete castles is to buy uber gear and pick on people's castles that are a few levels below your level.

$10 for a spin seems ok. I might play if for a bit (already feels like I need to farm like a WoW auction wh...) as farming for money takes too long and not interested in putting more real money into it.

They are significantly increasing resource drops and rebalancing several things next patch. I do agree that the game is too aggressive on micro-transactions. In the long run, they'd probably be more successful if they just sold skins and boosts.

ok, so either I have crappy gear or I'm doing something wrong. You basically have a time limit to get the loot at the end of the castle. If you don't do it within that limit, you only get the drops from the enemies. this sucks because I was in 2 castles and didn't get it because it took forever to kill the enemies.

DO you just run by them instead or do I need much better gear?

can you change to a different character somehow? I started as archer but want to try the knight, but can;t figure out how to start a new game.

Having other players attack you and lose gold and life force sucks. i watched this 1 guy come in and blow through my defenses and minions like nothing was there. of course I don't have much yet, but if it's that easy, I'll be broke in no time and won't be able to buy anything to keep fighting.

the tutorial is pretty short. If you are doing castles you select, then you are out of it.

Finishing castles is nearly impossible as I had the similar issue a week ago (been away so have not played this week). if you want to finish them, you are not going to get it. you just have to farm the monsters.

Also, not completing the end quest in each area means you do not get moved up so do not have to worry about higher level heros comming through.

Castle "level" seems tied to your character's level, so not upgrading him helps as you can focus on gear and not have to worry about people attacking.

Changing to another hero I think is in the top right on the portrates, but I have not bothered with that, so could be wrong.

People raiding your castle is the point of the game, but IIRC they can only take a max of 20%, and once someone "wins" against you, your castle does not allow anyone else to do a full raid until the "shield" is raised, which is about 10-12 hours.

I found it was best to work towards a point (upgrading something/buying something) then quiting at that point when you had no money in your chests and wait for the mines to fill up (6-12 hours later) and come back then to play again.

edit: and running past does not work as the game has a extra door at the end that will not open if there is a active monster around still.

Just been playing this game a few times since the patch.

Upside is that cheaper upgrades of buildings is greate. Need a new attack style for most of the bosses now, so some are stupidly harder now.

Downside, Castles are eveny harder now to finish. Even have some people taking advantages of game bugs or some such thing. I gave up playing today as I found two castles that had the owner placing monsters into the walls.

Stuff that. just going to be sticking to faming the faster filling mines as attacking seems pointless now.

O well, steam sale on, so will find something else for the next few weeks.

The "end" game is to get a castle that's hard for the best outfitted people to complete in time.

I had been ignoring building up my castle, hit level 5, did the last newb dungeon, and got bumped to level 6, and immediately had a level 9 come through my castle that had just the original rooms and no mobs. he got 5 gold, and 60 life force.

I was paying attention to what was causing me the most trouble when doing others castles, and saved up gold and life force, and went to town.

Logged out last night with a somewhat decent layout I thought. When I tested it, I had to burn healing potions to survive. When I logged in this morning to check the mines, I had 3 extra piles left behind by people who tried and failed.

So I think it's a decent challenge.

The latest patch notes say they've fixed people putting monsters inside walls, and I didn't see any in my running around.

I have 1 or 2 available closed beta keys, if someone wants to try it out. They are steam keys. So you will need a steam account to use them if you want.

This game has moved into an open beta now, available directly from the website linked in the first post.

Ubisoft/Uplay is required, but that's fine with me because it's also a completely online-only game.

I played some this weekend, actually a pretty fun game these days. If you've played any of the "Clash of Clans" type games on mobile you will understand the concept: build your castle for defense, go raid other people's castles and try to take their resources. It's a blend of this kind of game along with Diablo 3, in that instead of an army you build, you have just your hero character and your quest is both to find resources (to build up your castle and hero) and loot (new gear for your hero).

When you upgrade your castle defenses, you have to go through it yourself to "validate" the design - your best time making it through sets the "time to beat" for everyone else running your castle trying to take your loot.

If your castle gets pillaged, you get a limited duration shield that protects the resources you have in "storage" (this does not include the resources uncollected in your gold mine/mana well) from future raids.

The only thing missing is a social aspect, such as the clans in Clash of Clans or alliances in Samurai Siege or whatever. Adding that in would make it much more enjoyable.

Pretty fun overall, I was intending to play D3 this weekend but didn't even turn it on after downloading this game.
