An excellent point - that's the other problem with beer, the alcohol content is so low that if you want it to do anything, you'll be in the bathroom all night. Of course, Mike's has the same problem. Wine is much better in that regard.

try an amber dos equis. i dont like beer much, but i like dos equis amber. and a good german wheat beer. dont know any brands by name, but i have a friend that finds some good ones.

Mikes hard is definitely a girls drink... not the worst offender but it is bad. To anyone saying just drink whatever you want! fine... but that doesn't mean its not a girls drink. You can drive whatever you want to but a pink mustang convertible is still a girls car.

And I'm very suspicious of someone that doesn't like beer until they try some super strong German Ales... those are like american beers on steroids x10.

It's possible that there's some varety of beer that I would like, but the few I've tried have been so disgusting I haven't gone out of my way to check more out. Once bitten, twice shy.

ehh i phrased my sentence wrong.. I meant I would think that someone that doesn't like your average american beer would definitely not like 'real' beer because it is the same idea but 10x stronger in flavor.

I thought people consider bud 'piss' only because they are comparing it to the good stuff.

Probably the best "tasting" beer I've had was Southern Tiers cr&#232;me br&#251;l&#233;e Imperial Milk Stout. It's like drinking a cupcake.

The best "beer" beer is (IMHO) St. Bernardus Grottenbier.
Piraat is up there along with Gulden Draak for my next set.
Pliny the Elder is delicious.
Bell's makes a few very good ones, just not the cherry (cough syrup)
Magic Hat just came out for the holidays with Black Lager that was all over the place.
Sam Adams is damn good for an american macro TBH.
Stone Imperial too.

Now for beer you can buy at the grocery in the USA? Sam Adams is probably the best you'll get.

We are a little special in FL - Publix carries a little selection of local Florida beers (Delicious Cigar City (Jai Alai OMG!!!), Florida Beer (Key West), (Ybor)), and we get imports from the Bahamas and Jamaica too. Red Stripe is mass market and on the low end, but I'll drink that before a Michelob/Miller/Bud/Coors anything.

No they aren't. German beer in general is tastier and better than America beer The alcohol content matters not so much, but usually they have a little more to them too. It's about as far from the swill they brew in the USA as you can get. To say that German beer is like American beer is an incredible insult akin to calling a BMW M-Series a "mustang with better handling".

A majority of the beer brewed in Germany is pilsner, not ale. They do make hefe-Weizen (unfiltered wheat beer) and various other wheat beers like weissebier, schwarzbier, and they originated teh bock style too. While ales, I think what you refer to as a "super strong German" is actually Belgian beer. That is thick/rich delicious. It's like drinking bread. I can't describe how delicious a tripel can be.

It's because it literally tastes like piss. There is nothing good about Budweiser whatsoever. I don't understand how they've managed to create such an empire of selling terrible tasting beer. Because American's are stupid? Hmm NASCAR/football (that isn't played with your feet)/religion/prudish.... Damn I was born in the wrong country.

nah. People who don't like american beer often do like other beer. It isn't the same but stronger.

You guys are drinking the wrong beer.... Any IPA is usually about 6-7% and I'm willing to bet if you look you can find one much stronger if thats your sort of thing. I've had beer over 12% too. I think they called that one a barleywine though.

It all comes down to what you want in a beer, which is why there's SO many different brews out there that can stay afloat. I for one hate IPAs. All of them... something that bitter just ruins my taste buds. Heavy dark beers are generally a no-no for me as well, because it weighs me down and I feel awful after two of them.

I prefer wheat beers or lighter ales for their refreshing tastes.

Probably because SA Boston Lager is based on a traditional German brew recipe! Love the stuff. I think if I could drink only one beer for the rest of my life, that would be it. They've got quite a good selection of speciality brews now, too.

As a previous poster mentioned, Mike's has so much citric acid in it that it makes me feel sick after a couple.

I'm one who thinks judging based on drink choice is stupid, but just FYI bud light lime around here is considered more vagina friendly than any Mike's beverage.

I imagine it's the same elsewhere.

Yuengling is the only beer I will drink. I use to like Rolling Rock and it use to be made in my stare PA but ever since it moved it has not tasted the same.
