odd thought came across me so when you read this remember i have no knowledge of military networks of any kind. so then, military wifi, if we are running computers wirelessly in the military then couldnt the enemy know where we are by just scanning with a wifi finder,
(obviosly they can not,) yet the question here is how would you encrypt somtin like dat so that noone can even detect the signal?

Section 25 of the milspec outlines required levels of security for different locations and situations. The government has not officially approved wireless for use anywhere. In fact, EMSAC/Tempest standards require NO "wireless" to be physically operational in military computers.

The military doesn't even allow wireless keyboards or mice, much less wireless networks. That said, when I was deployed to a tent city in the middle east, we had a huge satellite dish that conveyed most of our telecommunications, including broadband for the entire base.

lots of cable. lots and lots of cable. however, at work we are coming up with new ways to extend range.

Wireless in the military is still a point of contention. Beyond that my other statement is to say that our military is as powerful and successful as it is because we have a strict doctrine and a "liberal use policy" of it. While other militaries follow their doctrine to the letter, the US military tends to "improvise" in situations where a text book doesn't quite fit. You can apply the aforementioned statements however you like with regards to military wireless networks.

wow this is prob the best forum i have been on, well one that had real world applications to it,
i remember a story with a tech guy for the military and seeing his toughbook with a bullet right into the monitor yet the keyboard was mishapen
it still ran.
