Why does China need a big military? They are well on their way to dominating the world economically. Taiwan will be conquered without a shot, when in 30 years the U.S. economy will be dependent on Chinese loans to get us thru the Social Security crisis. The U.S. will have to stand aside as China imposes its will on Taiwan.
Not to mention that the U.S. technological lead will be a thing of the past way before that.

I love how the "China will own the US" myth still perpetuates itself. A glance at the foreign holdings of US public debt should be most enlightening. Furthermore the Chinese don't invent/develop advanced technologies, they have to buy or try to steal them from Japan/ Europe/United States where there is actual incentive to create them.

A large proportion of new debt is being acquired by the Chinese. And the only country with even the possibility of buying the huge new debt from the SS crisis is China.

And lets not forget that we used to laugh at Japanese imports. Now they are ahead of the U.S. technologically in many areas.

They can buy all the debt they want, Every dollar of debt they own is just one more reason to go to war with them. I assure you that if there was a war with china the first thing we would do is invalidate every bond china owns.

US bonds are obviously fungible, so you can't invalidate debt held by China alone. You should invalidate it all. That would turn the US in a third world country overnight, as every little American saver suddenly finds his savings in T-bills are now worth nothing.

After all Americans have proven that when it comes to protecting our country that we are more concerned with corporate profits than Americas continued economic viability.

BS The third most populous country in the world will never be irrelevant in world affairs

The fifth most is, so I wouldn't expect the third to be just as vulnerable. Just as I wouldn't expect the US not to be irrelevant someday.

But Japan did not turn out to be the America crushing economic power everyone in the early 90's feared it would be. China is much the same way, people are overestimating their capabilities.[/quote]

You can't compare Japan to China. China is way Huge compared to the islands of Japan. China has a way more people ie...WorkForce then Japan could ever dream of having. Japan can not have a military, China's military is impressive. Japan is protected by the USA. China has nukes. Japan is a dictated government influenced greatly by the USA. China is not nearly as influenced nor are they willing to except the christain disease like Japan is.

Japan has to pretty much bend in our favor ... China does not. I think china has more funds (investments) in the USA then Japan does. Japan is running out of room it's growth is in a stall ... China is growing at a exceptional rate.

You can not compare Japan to China. There are not the same by any means. About the only thing they both have in common are they are both from Asia...

I think you are underestimating China. They are pumping large sums of cash for engineers and science. Next ten years China will be the next super power and leading in tech sectors leaving the USA behind that is if the USA does not start pumping cash back into the education system it's gonna take ten years to turn America back around. Mean time just about any tech gear is made in China. It'll be interesting!

I agree, only upper middle class white kids should go to school. :disgust:

What are you even talking about?
