New time added for a R280X by khrylxtko.

Thinking about ATs review of the 290X I read (only recently), maybe your GPU is throttling due to power or heat limits, like most games did with the card in quiet mode.
Have you looked at GPU clock speed whilst it's been crunching MW?

Thx for your score, that's a lot of tasks averaged!

But something's not right their, looking at the DP/FP64 power of a 290X it should place it between the HD 5870 & the HD 7950's time (& slightly faster than an HD 6950 but we don't have a time for that).
So between about 40-46s. Is your GPU throttling still?

Btw re your Nvidia times you posted a while back, were they at stock clocks?

Yes, I throttled the red card. Otherwise, it would run for an hour or two, and then crash and stall. The green cards are at stock.

Time added for a GTX Titan by Sebastian, derived from running 8 WU's at once (1 WU doesn't come anywhere close to fully loading a Titan), he states 1 8WU run took 201.8s.
Looking back through 300 of his valid results the vast majority take between 194-200s, so his time is fair if very slightly conservative .

Looks like the new Catalyst driver (v15.7 for 64bit Win7) shaved a few 10ths of a second off the time of my Gigabyte R9-280X. Doesn't sound like much, but it works out to a touch more than 1% improvement.

Previous reported time was 23.5. New time is 23.118875 seconds averaged over 23 tasks. Still running at stock clocks: GPU 1100 MHz, RAM 1500 MHz

Always nice to gain something for nothing
I'll add the time.

Btw do you remember what Cat version gave you 23.5s?

The new driver version is good for an extra 70,000-80,000 points per day on the Radeon 280X! Wow. Could be some other factor involved, but have noticed this increase for a few days now.

Err, that seems like a very large increase for 1 GPU!
What was the card's ppd before the driver update?

340k-380k. Back down to 350k yesterday, may have been a fluke for several days in a row, wingmen finally sending in tasks or something.

Could be some other factor involved, but have noticed this increase for a few days now.

Only running this one card for MW for two months now, and have never seen it spike that high before, much less for several days in a row, but I may have gotten a bit too excited. Time will tell.

EDIT: Free-DC gets weird sometimes, now that I think about it. The higher points could well be their reporting system being unstable at that time.

Holy sh*t! I've just googled your CPU, 14 cores & 35MB cache!! wow! , I won't ask how much that cost! .

Interesting to see that your CPU's crunch times are ~5% faster than my old C2Q, despite a ~22% clock speed disadvantage!

Btw, I'm going to add CPU times with HT on too, fancy giving us a time for that?
Thx for the above 1 anyway

I won't ask how much that cost!

It will take a while, but it will pay for itself eventually. I got it to replace a pair of Dell Workstations, each with dual hex-core CPU's.

If I can ever figure out how to overclock it properly, it will possibly offer the same performance as those two workstations combined, but likely just a little less performance.

The savings comes in the form of electricity of course, but I will sell the workstations too, to offset the initial cost.

1120 watts to run both workstations (including GPU for each), versus 416 watts (single GPU, CPU at 2.8GHz). I estimate about 635 watts using two GPU's and a bit of voltage for overclocking.

I'm thinking that with the sale of the workstations and the monthly power savings, 18 months to break even perhaps, with almost the same processing power.

Yea that's a big drop in power usage!

Re overclocking, you using a server mbrd or high end desktop?
