Still ho hum integer, but...

The power use is so damn efficient it doesn't matter

Price?

EDIT: Also you can tweak R9 280X to about 3.8Kh/s/watt it's not that bad. And my R9 290 puts out 870kh @ 256W..

Good performance/per watt but having to get 4 of these cards just to pull 1Mh/s seems like a bit much - you have to consider the costs involved in setting up the rest of the system as well. I'm more interested in how the higher end maxwell cards will mine than this card.

Firstly for extended mining you would not be overclocking the cards as it introduces potential instability.

The problem is also the rest of the rig.

You can spec one rig with a motherboard which can take multiple cards. Having more powerful cards makes more sense as you can have more per rig.

The problem with slower cards is that you would need more rigs which adds to the upfront cost. Plus,in the UK R9 290 cards can be had for around £290 to £320 on special offer.

The cheapest GTX750TI 2GB here is around £108 to £112 and it uses the basic reference cooler.

Three cards will not only be slower than a single R9 290,but that means the KH per rig is reduced, even if power consumption is improved.

oh dear lord no!! please don't inflate the green teams price Q__Q

I have my heart set on, for when the GTX880 comes out so I can sit it next to my 8800GTX lol

The 750ti is close, but needs another 100kh/s to be worthwhile in a dedicated miner with 5-6 friends.

More cards available for mining = supply meeting demand = lower prices

I see no problem unless Nvidia has yield issues too

I wouldn't doubt it. They couldn't keep up with the GTX680 inventory for months when it released.

If their new flagship cards prove to be great for mining, then I would presume it will experience the same R9 290/290X drought we're having now.

Keep in mind, this is GM107, which should be Nvidia's lowest end discrete Maxwell die. It's very competitive with AMD GPUs of the same class. GM104 and GM100, should they come into existence, would inherit the improved mining performance in addition to the insane perf/watt. The next round is Nvidia's for certain.

duplicate thread here.

already been discussed. http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2369708
long and short of it:
-3 cards to equal 1 card is inefficient.
-lower power use is nice but if have power cost issues, you probably shouldnt be mining in the first place.
-scrypt asics are coming soon enough that gpu mining will soon be obsolete for non-speculation coins.

They'll be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't.

But yes, I'm a bit optimistic about these things

if you exclude the use of more slots, it's $450 vs... $700 on a good day?
200W vs 300W? still looks kind of good,

isn't maximizing the profit paying for less power always a good thing?

I hope so! I don't care much about crypto coin mining, but I care about VGA prices,

Slots are very important to big time miners. Hope big maxwell is very efficient at hashing too!

Also, ASICs are already here for scrypt, but it's not going to obsolete GPU mining, there's already many coins that use new scrypt that's immune to ASICs. GPU mining is going to remain for a long time to come.

too many alt coins will eventually dilute valuations. most of the big money was put into btc, and most of the value of alts is coming from using btc to buy alts. eventually speculation on alts will bleed off if there isnt some actual business use model behind it. how many retail stores take doge or prime coins? it will become like penny stocks, which no one should ever be investing in.

Isn't it already like this?

Established miners who already paid their stuff off and its still profitable to mine sure, but anyone investing should only be doing it in the form of purchasing BTC while its cheap (now) before goes up massively again.... barring no FED intervention.
