Woot! Man, that heatsink is tall. Too bad OOS right now because it is tempting.

On the product details and image, there clearly is 2 SATA ports on it.

Yup. If you buy one and don't get the SATA ports, then they shipped you the older "GLY" version and not the "GLY2" update.

Now I just have to find a reason to buy one (once widely available).

That's... odd. Not the first time Intel's specs have disagreed with each other, I suppose.

What's that round thing next to the PCI slot? (The thing that looks like a BIOS battery sitting on its edge.)

Another [possibly stupid] question -- what case would you put this in? I know you can put it into cases intended for larger form factors, but I only see one pure mini-ITX case at NewEgg.

intel does not consider mini - ITX a standard so they call it micro atx. it is clearly a mini itx board and fits in mini itx cases. the main thing abuot it is it needs 4 pin 12v (for what reason i dont know) since the new board with the new lower power chip is under 20 watts at load. which is about the same as the c7 1.5 boards (but faster)

Why don't board designers do that with regular boards, instead of stuffing the batteries into a socket? It looks like it'd be less irritating to remove.

those vertical sockets aren't really easier to get a battery out of. i'd say it might actually be harder sometimes depending on where its placed.

Would this thing work for an well internet game box. I was looking at this for my 8 year old step son. Mainly for flash and Java games. No installed games what so ever, he has an xbox for that. It would be used on a 17in CRT possibly LCD. Anyone see any problems with it powering that set-up with a gig of ram. I will probably give ubuntu a shop but will more than likely end up with XP on it. Keep in mind he is an impatient 8 year old so if it is going to give a lot of hour glasses I am open to looking at something else.

i have had similar spec systems (i have a server that runs on a celeron 1.6 which is just barely faster than this) and it runs flash fine .

this is still a core 2 based celeron 1.2 ghz with 512k cache. first mac mini btw was a slower core 1 based core @ 1.5 ghz with 1mb cache. I'd say this is about equivalent to a p4 1.8-2.0 ghz or so. so that should be plenty , quiet and low power for your son.
