Seriously. I pay $80/mo for 15/5 mb/s. I get this.

In Texas Charter was $60/mo for 30/6 and gave us 75/20.

Why is yours $80? I just have WOW internet, no TV and it's $20/month for the first year then $55 a month after that.

In Texas Charter was $60/mo for 30/6 and gave us 75/20.

the problem is that internet providers are unregulated what i mean by that

in the old days of the modem when i was buying a 28.8 internet connection i was going to have that speed. if not i was going to call the provider to fix the problem. the time has passed and we moved to isdn lines. Now you had the magical speed of 64k or 128k to choose from which was a step up from the modems 56k-33.6k you could get with the modem.

but the first but started. while you were paying a very larger premium for the isdn connection you ended up with smaller or equal speed of a modem 56 in some cases. for the first time calling the provider and complain result to be informed that there is nothing they can do to fix the problem. The problem was so big that was news in all computer magazines the rip off of isdn.

but but nothing happened no regulation nothing. so we move to the adsl era with the problem just magnified. The numbers they sold if you read the contract is max values that will be available to you. but but where is the minimum!?!?!?!?! without a minimum guarantee speed it makes no sense to sell something at the maximum seed.

especially in areas that the telecommunication network has very bad infrastructure and it is not going to be upgrade any time soon. but providers ring me up for a new super douper offer for faster internet which i know can not be delivered. I pay for 24mb download but it will never go above 12mb due to the network infrastructure. changing provider will do nothing because the cables coming into my house will be the same.

its plain marketing where the sale garbage for gold. and there is no state law to protect you. when we buy a hard drive we now it is connected via a protocol to our computer to we expect that the hard drive speed will be there?? thats why the manufacturer tell us the actual speed of the drive and how he measure it.

To sum it up. As long there will be no minimum guarantee speed it does not matter what you pay and what you get because they company will deliver as promised.

Yeah, I want to go to comcast's 500mb/s plan, but it's like 150/mo and also my family won't stand for paying them. Even though we use verizon, which is the cellular equivalent to comcast.

Unless you live in the middle of no-where (which is your own fault) - use competition. In my area we have:
1) Comcast Cable
2) AT&T Uverse Cable
3) AT&T DSL
4) Other DSL
5) Satellite
6) Possibly others since I haven't looked.

If you're in the middle of nowhere, usually satellite is the only option. Otherwise, there is usually more than 1 option. Currently I pay ~$40/mo for Comcast, and I get ~30mb/down. Of course, I also have to call everytime the contract expires to re-implement them because I'm not paying $60 for simple internet service...

Damn, son.

Here's my Speedtest.net result. I would say the above test's upload is either broken or there's something between us limiting it. I have 75/75 on Verizon Fios. The way Verizon does their speed ratings is guaranteed minimums if the other end supports it. They're holding up their end of the bargain, IMO.

World of Warcraft does suck. I was a D1/D2 kinda guy - the classic days. Shit went downhill after that.

Wimax sucks

Yeah I remember when they were pushing that, telling people to get those hotspots, and it would be the best thing ever!

Didn't go as planned.:|

OP, if that is all you get now, have you checked to see if one of those fixed-wireless providers is in your area?
