I dont know but my lappy with an SU2300 is slow as balls... That chip is a severe bottleneck.

My MSI A5000 laptop with T3100 C2D dual-core Celeron is a decent performer.

I can happily stand to use my C-60 Acer Aspire One 722 Netbook.

OTOH, I have difficulty putting up with my E-350 rigs. Perhaps it's the SSD installed, or perhaps, it's the particular drivers?

My Gateway Slimline with a Sandy Bridge Pentium G630 seemed alright, until my internet radio started skipping, whenever I scrolled the screen. It has an NV GT430 installed.

The dual-core atom SFF (intel D510?) I bought to use as a music jukebox is slow enough in Windows 7 to be annoying.

The i3 - 2100 desktop I use now for a music jukebox is much, much better. I've used it for other things too, like playing Torchlight 1 while the video card in my gaming computer was in the shop.

I'd be happy with any of the (desktop) dual-core Pentiums. So for mobile I'd say the i3s are probably fine. If I'm keeping it for years then I'd at least get the faster of the two i3s.

My PC has a passmark score of almost 5000 and it is still jittery on sites like ebay. But usually you only need a passmark score of 2000 for your pc to feel fast at most things. Unless it is a quadcore, then you should shoot for a score of 4000+. Passmark scores are heavily influenced by core count, much moreso than general browsing. So the best thing to do is divide the passmark score by the number of cores you have and then aim for 1000 or more. (Count HT cores as half cores)

Just for giggles I did try running my i5 at 1.6GHz MAX jsut to see how it would feel. In most cases it was ok but it did take noticeably longer to open a browser and load pages. Kind of annoying, really, but still faster than say a pentium 4.

My old laptop (Turion x2 ZM-80) is at about 1,000, with a hard drive. It's certainly serviceable, but it is also showing its age a bit. I think either of those i3 processors would do you just fine.

Anything from the core2duo family will do if you are not gaming or transcoding.
