Whats the minimum psu wattage I should get for a c2d system with an x1950xt graphics card? I also need to take into account the future being DX10 cards. Thanks.

Well it also depends whether you are going to overclock your system (CPU or graphic card or both) or not. I am also using Sapphire X1950XT and I had Enermax Noisetaker 485Watt power supply with dual rails but I overclocked hard and computer was restarting on me quite often (but I also have 5 harddrives running, 4 12CM fans, and 2 90mm fans with 2 coolermaster cooldrives running). It would have been enough if I just left all my components running at stock speed. If you are going to overclock, minimum I think it should be 500W but I could be wrong since you are going with Core2Duo and DDR2 which should consume less power

You can use the power supply calculator to ROUGHLY estimate the powersupply requirement here even though the numbers they threw at me seemed abit overkill -> http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp

Thanks for the feedback. If I expect to get a dx10 card later in the year, should I aim a little high?

You want to be comfortable running your equipment, so it is always a good idea to have some headroom, however going 600w is overkill. A good 450w supply will run any single CPU/GPU setup basically.

I have a S-12 380 running a 3700+ and 8800GTS and it's fine.

Choosing a 600w PSU is not a bad idea. Sure you may not need 600w today, but we gamers often upgrade components and a 450w PSU won't handle a high end video card, especially if the 450w PSU is an OEM type that is heavily over-rated. Someone mentioned overclocking and that would definately push you over the edge. Components and OSes can be damaged by a straining PSU. I have been there a few times and learned my lesson.

I like the FSP550-80GLC-R. 4 +12V rails @ 22A each for a total of 42A, 80% claimed efficiency, and only $85. The only bad thing is that there's only a 80mm fan, which would make it kinda loud. I'm looking to buy one soon to power my recently acquired X1950XT.

If i was him id be going for a 580W Hiper psu, dont know if yuou have em over there, but their very good quality, and it has a max output of 630W, so its good for the price, considering it only makes 18db of noise and is is pretty darn cool too.
