Greetings everyone!

Check out this versatile little player at Best Buy. It is available both online and B&M. It seemes to have almost identical specs to Apex AD1500 with exception of added component video output. Has anyone had any experience with these?

Mintek?!? Never heard of them... You can get the APEX 1500 for about the same price at a few places... Apex DVD's are easily hackable...

Exactly what I meant getmeadeal... A couple weeks ago it was even on sale there for $69.99.

I'd say pay the extra $10 (if that's the current best price) and get the Apex.

does anyone know if samsclub is still selling the Daewoo DVD? I checked their website, but it's not listed.

Sam's club online (and thru click-n-pull) do not show ANY Daewoo DVD's because their inventory is too fluid, and these items seem to be available from the MFG as one-time orders.

However, if you check your local Sams (regardless of what click-n-pull shows), your store will likely have either the 5000N or the 5700 model.

The 5000N's are no longer being shipped to Sams, and it seems that the stores that still have 5000N's won't get 5700's until they sell out of 5000's

Unlike the 3000->5000 which were virtually identical players with slightly more features, the 5700 is made by a totally different company and therefore boasts entirely different menus, somewhat different features/etc..

If you want to know all about these, go to * www.nerd-out.com/forum * for full details.

Personally I got a 5000N, my first one was defective (didn't play all MP3s correctly), and my current one seems to work fine (but others are reporting a higher-than-normal failure rate on the later date-code ones (either power supply or DVD reader related). Generally the 5000N offers MORE features (as a whole) than the 5700, but the 5700 offers some different things that are REALLY nice.

e.g. 5000 Seems to have a better remote layout and remote sensor (don't have to be aligned perfectly), offer Karaoke, optical (as well as coax) digital audio out, plays MPG video files burned onto CDR directly (e.g. from a ReplayTV), plays VOB's directly burned (if unprotected). Shows 11 characters of MP3 filename on TV screen.

5700 has different menu layout (more like an old Apex, but with nicer colors/headings), doesn't play MPG video streams, offers headphone not microphone connectors (e.g. no Karaoke), only has coax (no optical) digital audio out, worse remote layout/sensor, but will SCROLL the MP3 ID3 tag on the TV when playing MP3's, and will show the 8 character filename on the front flourescent display as well.

Oh yeah.. the 5700 lets you scan FF/REV at up to 64x, where the 5000 only goes up to 32x. (2x/4x/8x/16x/32x/64x)

I havn't tried a 5700 so am only going off of other people's reports. Check out Nerd-Out before you buy for complete details on any "non big name brand" unit (Apex, GE, Shinco, Daewoo, Mintek, ...)

Personally I wouldn't pay over $50 for this Mintek from Best Buy.... The only feature it has the Daewoo's don't is ability to display JPG files burned onto a plain data CD (e.g. not having to convert to VCD format). However when I tried one, it couldn't keep up with SVCD playback or MPG video files burned on the disc... tons of glitches due to not enough processing power or something.

Good luck!
