An appropriately smoking deal. If you dont need tiny speakers for high WAF, these are a great deal.

Does anyone recall the old days when deals like this were unheard of? I'm talking about the 80s-90s when all you could get is some crappy JBL, low-end Advent (which were actually pretty darn good) and Pinnacles for this price?

The difference is the internet; it's easier to find deals now. Back in the day, you had to be in the right place at the right time to stumble upon a closeout. I remember finding a local shop in the early 90s that had a clearance going. They had the Carver Amazing Platinum speakers (normally $2500) down to about $1100. I wanted them so bad!

Anyways, if I didn not have too much gear already, I'd jump on these Mirages. Great wide soundstage.

For the money, the polk look nicer (and Im not talking about just the wood grain). 3 midrange speakers and a tweeter instead of two wanna-be subs and a tweeter.

Im no expert though, so what say you?

I'd go with the Omni set. I've demo'ed the bookself models and they sound quite good and produce a nice "wall of sound" which is perfect for movies and music sounds pretty good also. I've got a pair of the Polk Monitor 50s (with 2 5.25" drivers and 1 tweeter) and they sound pretty good for rear channel speakers, but I think 5.25" drivers are too small to be used as front speakers.

I might break down and pick up a pair of the Omni's. I've been eyeing them for ~2 years. I've got a really old set of speakers in a 5.1 setup in the basement for the front channels and the foam surrounds are shot. I should be getting a repair kit for my B-day tomorrow for my main speakers (a set of Infinity Reference VI's which also needs the foam surrounds replaced) and if the repair goes well, I'll order the repair kit for the speakers in the basement. If not, I'll pitch the old speakers in the basement and order a pair of the Omni's.
