I really want to like it, I really do. But this is one hell of a terribly clunky game. It's obviously a horrid console port to start with, but the gameplay should make up for that, right? Right?!

Nope. It's awful. The controls are anemic and the gameplay extremely repetitive. I've owned this game for about 6 months and I don't even think I'm 1/4 of the way through. I want to finish it for the sake of finishing, but like FarCry 2, I have my doubts that I'll be able to complete this steaming pile of shite.

Anyone actually enjoy this or have some tips to make it enjoyable? I'm using an XBox 360 controller and it still blows major ass.

It was definitely frustrating at first. I found it enjoyable once I got the hang of the controls. It does get a little repetitive though.

I liked it. I haven't finished it completely but other than the somewhat thin storyline, Ive enjoyed it. There are some really fun parts and the first person perspective really makes the game unique and personable.

Sounds like you've played it for about 10 minutes.

Negative. According to Steam, 3 hours into this shit. I haven't played in several months since posting this, was bored and decided to give it another go...bad decision.

I thought the controls were fine, but I was using KB+mouse. I wouldn't use a controller for a first person game.

Go read some Faulkner, and I promise you will appreciate the game more after that, lulz.

J/k, the game definitely is not for everyone. I enjoyed the movement sequences in the game, figuring out how to get from one point to another. While repeating sequences due to failure got frustrating at times, the desire to get it just right kept me going. I also like watching gymnastics and figure skating in the olympics (go figure), which have different values than some of the other more directly competitive events. (I will say that the combat was awkward at times--it was usually easier to run, but it's hard to jump off walls when people are shooting at you).

Then again, I enjoyed Far Cry 2 as well. It wasn't amazing, but I had a good time during gameplay. From reading on this forum, I suspect I am a boring person and have a high threshhold for boredom.

Nope, I love The Sound and the Fury (have read it several times) and this game is just terrible compared to that.

I guess the issue comes down to the clunky (to me) controls and the repetitive gameplay. Oh well, I'll just warrior my way through it a level per month at a time or so...

Played it on console and beat it, then played it on PC ($5 on steam).

The PC controls are actually superior to console imo. OP's problem seems to be lack of skill. It's also as repetitive as every FPS ever made (on first play through), FPS = lots of shooting guys, mirrors edge = lots of platforming. My only gripe is the lack of replay value, they simply need bigger/more open maps and more maps. Perhaps a user friendly map creator (but being a pure console port I doubt this will happen with any sequel).

not sure why'd you call it a horrible console port. controls were fine for me with kb & mouse and there wasn't any performance issues (as long as Physx was off).

only issues I had with it was when I got stuck because I couldn't figure out how to properly get to an area to proceed through a level (which is basically user error)

I was just joking about the Faulkner; I'm a fan of his writing, even if he doesn't have mass appeal. His novels have way more creativity than you can find in most games. But that's neither here nor there.

I wouldn't recommend the level per month approach. If you're going to hate it, hate it intensely for several hours and be done with it

This game is decent. I didn't have any problems with the controls. I liked the level design and art style of the game a lot, but the lack of savegames was annoying (and to make matters worse, many of the save checkpoints didn't work if you had to restart the game, such as when it crashed).

In any case, the game is short and easy, especially by the standards of platformers. You can blow through it pretty quickly. There were only one or two parts where I had any trouble.

Not to mention the game in inexcusably short...

It is pretty telling when people think your less-than-6-hour game is repetitive.

I liked the game (a rare risk for EA) but it does get frustrating at times. The combat controls suck. I still haven't finished it.

Just thinking out loud here... Weren't they making sequels to this game?

Some people have mentioned repetition as part of the problem, and in thinking about it, I have to agree. It can also be relatively frustrating at times to have to make the same combo move 5 times before you pass the next check point. Maybe platformers aren't for me after all; or at least not this one.

I will finish it as I'm trying to work through my ever increasing list of games I own that I've yet to play/finish. I'm thinking I'll probably go back to KB+M and see if it grows on me at all.

Never played it, but was impressed with the Graphics from the Trailers/Videos of the Game. Despite that, I always am left with a big "WTF kinda Game is that" after watching one of the Videos. My interest is near 0 in this game.

It's good for a playthrough at least. Beautiful game, it's fun to run around and figuring out the various jump puzzles after you can pull off the moves. Too much combat, too much luck (esp. trying to survive without combat feels so random), terrible plot and voice acting, controls could have used more work. I really think this would have been a lot better if EA didn't get a huge "omg we gotta have the player character shooting and hitting, else people won't buy" spaz out.

I used KB+M.

The combat controls sucked intentionally to make using your agility to avoid combat a more attractive option. Otherwise we'd all play this game like a standard fps because that's what we're used to.

I liked the game, but I wish it were more open ended allowing you to use your creativity to figure out how to get through the levels instead of having to go through each area exactly as the devs intended. Considering they were making a very new type of game I can see why they played it safe with the level design. Hopefully the sequel will be more open.

I really liked it. I had no problems with the controls with keyboad and mouse. I've played through it several times.

yea the game played okay.
the only thing annoying was when using the gun, the aim would snap to grid and not be precise. must be a console thingy.

Yeah, this was a problem. The game rarely posed any challenge, but if you did die it was usually because you simply got unlucky with the enemy fire while running past a horde of enemies, not because you actually did anything wrong.
