Miscarriages suck.

My sister had one yesterday. She was at my house, and started bleeding heavily - she was only two months into the pregnancy. I took her to the ER, where she started having contractions in the waiting room. They ended up aborting what was left of the fetus via a simple surgery.

I held together pretty well through most of it - until my sister asked me what she was going to tell her daughter (she's 3, and hearing that she was going to be a sister made her so excited). I fell apart after that - we had some deep discussions before she went home.

The worst part about it was, that my family wasn't very exicted to hear about the pregnancy when my sister told them. I can't say I was either - seeing as my sister is 20, and is barely scraping by with her first child, I dot' know how she would have been able to handle another one. I know it's not THE cause of her miscarriage, but I feel guilty in this situation as our disapproval didn't help the situation.

I'm trying - I felt like such a douche yesterday. I just kept apologizing to her.

Sorry to hear that man.

On a side note- I want to know how you explain it to the three year old, and how she takes it, if you manage to explain it to her.

My mom had a miscarriage between me and my younger brother being born. I didn't go through what you did as an adult (I was less than 2 at the time), but it's still wierd to think about it and know I might have had another sibling.

Sorry

My sister told her that the baby went to heaven - seeing as it's probably the only form she can grasp at such a young age.

Yeah, there was supposed to be a sister between my brother and I, but it didn't work out. When you think about it though, think of all the extra stuff that I got because my parents didn't have to support another kid.

Ryan, that's a bummer. She should use some sort of birth control to keep from having more kids if she can't afford them. It sounds like things worked out for the best, though the path that things took to get there seems like a sad one.

Where did he say she could not afford more kids? He said miscarriage as well not abortion.

Anyway...many pregnancies end 3 months or earlier, some never know they were pregnant.

It's best to wait to tell people once you are 'showing' and the fetus is more secure.

The first time my wife was pregnant, she miscarried. I was talking with my mom about it, who informed me that she'd had 4 miscarriages. It's very common, and we kids never knew she'd been pregnant.

I'd be interested to see the stats.. kinda scary that people try so hard and the chances are higher than you'd think.

My mom had a miscarriage a year before I was born. Had she not, I might not have been born.

Best of luck to your sister.

They are tragic... even if the pregnancy was not really expected or planned in the first place.
That was wonderful of you to be there for her at such a difficult time.

I am so sorry.

My wife miscarried about 9 months ago. From talking to people about it, it is very common especially in the first trimester. In fact a lot of people don't even know that they were pregnant.
