misleading accuracy of Infrared Thermometers?

I ordered a Raytek MiniTemp MT6 yesterday and should hopefully have it tomorrow.

Here's a look at the MT models:

I plan to use this around the house to help spot all the cold spots and to hopefully be able to fix them so the house is better insulated.

...Anyway,

If you look at the listed Accuracy rating of the MT6; it's ±3°F (So if it shows a temperature of 90°, it could actually be anywhere between 87° and 93° due to margin of error).

But here's what I think is the somewhat misleading part...The MT6 shows the temperature to the tenths (ie 98.6°).

If the thing is only accurate to plus/minus 3 WHOLE degrees, what's the point of showing the temperatures to the tenths?

so you can guestimate closer to the actual temp, like it might be 87 and 3/10 instead of just 87
