gigabyte, I hate it when people say jigabyte, that's not even a measurement.

The worst are people who pronounce html as hotmail or use CPU as an abbreviation for computer

umm, the CPU is the computer.

I agree with spidey actually...the CPU can be used to describe the entire tower, though I don't really call it by that name

by definition CPU can be used to term the big hunk of metal as it really is the central processing unit. Its rare these days that somebody calls a processor a "cpu", because its not really correct.

Apparently I live in a different world than you do. The entirety of the machine is PC or computer, or Mac. The central processing unit/amd chip/intel chip is the CPU... you know, the one under the big fat metal thing with fins.

Only people that I have ever heard use CPU instead of Computer are the ones who know nothing about computers and are trying to say like they do. Seriously.

CPU
(Central Processing Unit) The computing part of the computer. Also called the "processor," it is made up of the control unit and ALU. Today, the CPUs of almost all computers are contained on a single chip.

The CPU, clock and main memory make up a computer. A complete computer system requires the addition of control units, input, output and storage devices and an operating system.

From the Mainframe Point of View
Computer professionals involved with mainframes and minicomputers often refer to the whole computer as the CPU, in which case, CPU refers to the processor, memory (RAM) and I/O architecture (channels or buses).

Depending on which end of the field you are in, a CPU can mean the processor, memory and everything inside the cabinet, or just the microprocessor itself.

I always say "bye-oh-ss" and its oddly annoying to hear it pronouced with the 'ahh' instead.

Damn right! I had a coworker who always pronounced it "BYE-AHHSSS" and everytime he said it I wanted to strangle him.

I can't stand it when people refer to the computer itself as the "hard drive."

"You're running out of room on your hard drive. You might want to consider getting a larger one."
"I have to buy a whole new hard drive?! Will it work with my screen?"

God I hate having to explain that one...

There's always the classic "gif" vs "jif" pronunciation
I myself often refer to a URL as an "earl"--hey, it's one syllable vs three.
