If you like females and you see what looks like a female, being aroused and taking care of business is normal. That reductionist simplistic explanation is outdated. It's been over 100 years since Stevens and Beecher Wilson first described the XY sex-determination system. Our knowledge is more advanced now so we know this isn't a simple mechanism of presence/absence but of proportions and gene interaction. Put your trust in current medical science, not antediluvian bigotry.

Edit: We classify stuff because it simplifies how we elucidate the patterns and forces we see in the natural world, making convenient little categories and boxes in which to fit stuff for the purpose of communication without equivocation. Unfortunately, nature is not bound by our worldview and the real world if full of borderline and transitional forms that defy simple classification. The usual demarcation between man & woman is an approximation for exactly this reason but exceptions do occur. The history of science is replete with examples of this whether they be fossil taxa or astral bodies, for example. There is a transgendered person in our department. You wouldn't know by looking at her or talking to her. Theres actually another one in another in a related department. Its a huge company, so I guess by % its bound to happen. Anyways, for all intents and purposes they are female.

If this contest allows plastic surgery, I see no issues with this person competing. Its a beauty contest for the female form, so this person qualifies in that sense. These kinds of contests evolve over time. Before it was only white people in them. In another 50 years people won't even bat an eye when they hear the word transgendered, if they are still even calling it that. 50 years after that we may have ETs living among us, and then they'll want to compete as well.

There was a member here 12 years ago who was in the pre-op phase though he was banned and I don't know if he got his surgery done (my guess would be yes). His disphoria was one of the things that caused him to be a very volatile troll at the time (multiple bans and re-instatements, name changes on a whim). Five members at Ars Technica are now post-op and a sixth will undergo the procedure shortly.

Just an FYI, for those that keep saying they see man parts (shoulders, hands, etc.) you would be wrong. She started her hormone replacement therapy at the age of 14. That would include a testosterone blocker as well as estrogen supplements. Meaning, her puberty was female based.

funny how you try to lump the genetics of sex determination into the same category as genetic disease--two very, very different mechanisms. (and yes, Michael Jackson very much had a not-uncommon skin disease found in blacks. Vitiglio)

Consider that the current iteration of the Y is essentially a degenerate, ancient X chromosome. In some species, a shrimpy Y is fused to an arm of the X chromosome.

Now, because the Y chromosome is indeed disappearing due to the fact that it doesn't recombine (one of the more important mechanisms of driving novel genetic information in sexual reproduction), it stands to reason, then, that sex determination is and most be completely valid through other mechanisms--the very real possibility that gender specific genes can and will migrate to other regions, or simply lose their necessity.

Plenty of species exist today that have completely tossed the Y--males that are characterized as XO, and of course systems in many, many animals (all birds, and many snakes, where females are heterogametic and males are homogametic). Then there is the noble platypus, with 10 sex chromosomes).

So, while sex chromosomes are, indeed, essential for determining sex in species, it doesn't tell the whole story.
