Missing File in XP pro

Plz help...I built a new PC and everything is well except the OS (I think). My PC would restart every once in a while and an error report would be sent right after it booted. Microsoft's crash analysis said that it was caused by a driver problem. I tried reinstalling several different drivers, updating the drivers/Window, and I tried scanning the hard disk for file corruption...etc but they all didn't help. Some times when the PC reboots on its own it display a message right after the POST saying there is a "missing or corrupted file in system32\...." (don't remember which file it was, but it was a .DLL file) and told me to replace it. If that is the problem how would I reinstall that file? Thanks.

If you only get "missing or corrupted file in system32\..." sometimes, the file is probably not missing or currupt. More likely, a HD cable problem, overclocking, or a memory fault. You should get memtest 86 and test the memory.

Sure, it can be a driver problem, but since drivers use memory, it is usually just be that memory error occured while the CPU was running an instruction within the driver. So make sure the memory test is OK first. Run the test for a few hours or overnight.

Sometimes it is a CPU fault, and that is mostly due to the heatsink not making good contact, causing the CPU to overheat.

A copy of the file may be on the XP CD in the directory I386. Most of the files are compressed, and the last letter of the file name is replaced with an underline character. There is a program called EXPAND that expand such files, and I think it is available at the Recovery Console choice from the XP install CD, but it is also in the I386 directory. Typing EXPAND /? will probably give you some instructions.
