Parents are to blame for this, if the police story is accurate. Mother has no one to blame but herself and her poor choices.

The reason the officer's camera wasn't on was because it was in the car. The reason is most likely due to the place the cameras are worn and the fact the car seat belt ends up getting interfered with as well the camera, etc when worn in the car.

OK, thanks for the clarification.

It is a commonality for children to be raised by their peers. That is the jewel of the American education system. In this case his mother, though ignorant, is not to blame. Not entirely. She didn't have the time nor means to pay attention and raise a child.

The gangs raised that child, and turned him into a wanna-be cop killer.

Where is the father or the grown males of the family? Another example of 70% children from broken homes?

"Martin said her son turned 18 in September. He had been expelled from school but was trying to get his life back together, she said, and she was encouraging him to join Job Corps."

He was just trying to get through the Forrest to bring his Grandma a Basket of Food--She was a Shut-in. {cue little red riding hood}

More often than not, children put on different acts around their parents vs what they do around their peers.

As a former asshole child, I can confirm that I did a lot of dirt and my mom did not know. She most certainly would tell other people that I was a good honest kid that never told lies and did everything I was supposed to do.

Of course, I have never broken the law, fought a cop, or pulled a gun on one...but, I'm just making a point.

I think all of our mothers would say good things about us, even if they don't know what the hell they are talking about.

A few days ago, a kid in Dayton got shot by another guy after he tried to steal his Jordans at gunpoint. The boy who was killed was with two other people who ran off when he got shot. The father (and mother) of one of the kids (who ran) couldn't believe it. He was in complete denial. He claimed that he gave his son enough money to buy the shoes...so why would he try to steal them? He totally didn't understand. His son is being charged with felony murder. The father doesn't understand any of it.

I believe that sometimes these parents really do think their kids are good people and will deny it to the end of the Earth that they are anything but. Of course, some of these parents know full well that their kids are rotten, but they don't want everyone else to know that...so, they get on TV and put on a show about their "baby".

Aahhh, expelled from school.....BUT...but..but ??? Damn it, soooooo racist school.

Another example of Treyvon Martin again? Shall we see the reason(s) of the expulsion from the school soon?

Pointing gun at the police/acting bad ass = death sentence. Just like a skit of Dave C.'s "When keep it real goes wrong".

A bit more than just expelled from school.

CNN Article said:
Martin faced a series of criminal charges over the past 15 months, including assault, armed robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and stealing, CNN affiliate KMOV reported. The station showed Martin's tearful mother Toni Martin saying her son was "trying to get his life back together."

It appears that the quick release of facts, plus the video tape, has resulted in a large number of people who accept this for what it is.

I don't buy that. Instill enough common sense logic and respect in your child (and do it repeatedly) and it'll sink in. If your child is a follower, he/she will end up following the wrong crowd. If they're not, they won't and may serve as a good role model for their peers. I'm not saying that all good kids are saints, it's just that the smart ones think things through before acting, instead of just following the leader.

Sounds like another thug got what he had coming. There is not enough hate in my veins though to use the smile or grin emoticon or type out a quip in Ebonics.

Black+White Cop=Riot.

It's the new social equation.

FTFY

But seriously, this is getting bad now. I'd feel like I'm more racist now after all of these events, but then I realize I would hate any other group of people just as much if they pulled this victimized bullshit (i.e. regardless of race/nationality/income level).

And it's sad because it is an extremely small amount of people protesting, and most of them are white.

At least most people get it, I just wish all of the media coverage would fade away though, these nut cases have had their time in the spotlight, time to go back to the hood (or college for all the white hipsters out there bandwagon protesting for something they have no experience with).

I'm going to give you a little piece of reality. Those community that have "lost trust" in the police are the same communities that are willing to burn down and steal from their neighbors. These are shitholes communities (see Furgeson), and the reason they are like that is not because of cops, it's because they refuse to address the real problem, which is themselves.

Yeah, I bet the quite literal debtors prison that the Ferguson justice system has created for its residents has absolutely nothing to do with it...

Should they take it out on the police themselves, probably not because the police are simply doing what they are ordered to. With that said, the police are the group that starts the encounter and are the people that interact with the public.

I support the cops. We have become too soft on crime and criminals. It use to be if you stole a horse you were hung by the neck. We need more laws like that. If you steal a car you should be executed as soon as possible. If you are soft on criminals they just committing more and more crime. They should arrest people for jaywalking and throwing even one cigarette on the ground. If you give people an inch, they take a mile. Just We must have law and order. This started with putting up with those stupid wall street protests. If someone protests for 3 days that is the limit anyone should put up with them. After that they are just trying to hold the public hostage. If this means the police have to use billy clubs or guns I am OK with it. If people take to the streets and demand the violence, give them violence. Without order we are just a bunch of anarchists.

A country that has 5% of the worlds population and 50% of the worlds prisoners is soft on crime? Yeah, ok...

also, the activation process is probably brand new to people and/or changes frequently..especially from device to device.

imagine being in a stressful situation, you run out of your house and realize "aw shit, I forgot my (etc.)!" Until you develop that muscle memory from doing something routinely over a long period of time, you are going to be prone to forgetting things.

The video clearly shows the 18 yoa raise his arm, pointed level at the officer...as you would if you were aiming to shoot. I think one of the news sites had it enhanced and blown up to make it easier to see.

Hopefully there will be other, more clear, videos of the incident. The gas station appeared to be littered with cameras.

Shrug, with an external battery pack (like the ones you use to charge your phone) and the "battery backpack" my go-pro will last all day. Doesn't really take a genius to figure out how to turn it on either. As a matter of fact, being able to push an on button, visually ensure the red light is on, push the record button and then visually ensuring the 2nd red light is on should be a very basic requirement of being a police officer. Fuck it should probably be on the application "Are you confident that you can properly work very basic electronic equipment (Y/N)"

Cameras cannot always be ok because cops go to the bathroom for example.

Its not like civilians have to get electronically strip searched just to get on a plane or anything...

Besides, the camera is pointing ahead, not down. I guess we could see what they were reading while taking a shit but that doesn't sound very exciting to me.

Please go on and tell me more about this debtors prison that the Ferguson justice system created. Did they force the community to crank out kids they can't afford? We're they responsible for NOT insilling children with basic moral responsibilities? The root of the problem here are the community members themselves, nothing more. The police are just reacting to the shit the community is producing.
