Mitsumi Wavit11 Wireless 802.11b Access Point

What is it?

In addition to functioning as a standard 802.11b access point, it can also operate as a wireless Ethernet adapter (bridge-type) to connect a device with an Ethernet port to a WLAN, and if you pair two Wavit11 units together they can bridge between wired networks.

How do I use it?

You got in on a cheap wireless router deal
. You have a desktop PC and want to connect wirelessly. Connect a network cable from the PC to the Wavit11. It's now a wireless client! No need to buy expensive PCI or USB WiFi adapters.

Navigate to the item and buy. I spent $74.93 shipped for 2 (or 37.47 each)! Discount will show up on the last checkout page.

Be careful -- some of these "access point bridges" will only bridge if they are connected to another of the same model. This is true of the Netgear and D-Link at least. So if you are buying it just for the bridge capability, be sure it will "bridge" with another brand of access point.

if you pair two Wavit11 units together they can bridge between wired networks.

1. The last time I checked there was a $5 off coupon for Overstock. If it is still valid you could get this for a final price of $38.
2. This is the least expensive wireless bridge I know of.
3. You only need one to connect an XBox (assuming you already have a wireless access point).
4. Many people have reported that it does work with other brands of 802.11b access points.

Anyone know of any similar product that will work with most access points? I have a dlink access point and want to go online with XBOX and PS2.

If you have a D-Link access point, I would get a bridge from D-Link. Try the DWL-810+ for $63 shipped at newegg, or the DWL-810, or the DWL-900AP+ for $53.90 after rebate (rebate expires today) which can be set to work as a client. Here are the instructions from the D-Link site telling you how to hook up the DWL-810+ to your XBOX.

Yes, but you are just looking for a wireless access point (or a wireless router to replace your wired router). You can find those cheaper than this Mitsumi. What is special about the Mitsumi is that it will act as a bridge, and it is under $40. Wireless bridges are usually more expensive. If you don't need that functionality you might as well get a less expensive wireless access point or router.

So will this one then work as a bridge to multiple clients? Like if I hooked it up to a switch? I need a bridge to connect my HTPC and XBOX to my wireless network, but don't want to spend between $150 and $200 to get a Linksys bridge or 2 Access points, and if one of these would work for multiple machines that would be great.

I just got one of these for my PS2.
You will need 2, if you want to use it as a wireless bridge. In the configuration page you can only change the last six digits of the destination MAC/Hardware address(this is the address for the access point). This means that you can only bridge it with other Mitsumi wireless devices...

Lets hope there is a software "patch" for this later on....

You need to set it up in infrastructure mode -- not bridge mode.

Infrastructure mode is used if you want to serve out a wireless connection. I need this device to act as a wireless client since i want to connect my PS2 to my exsisting wireless network. I pretty sure in order to do this you need to wireless device to be in "bridge mode" not "infrastructure mode".

I should of read the original post all the way through. In the original post is says: "and if you pair two Wavit11 units together they can bridge between wired networks."

Look in section 5.3 (page 7) of the manual. Your PS2 is like the printer in that example. You need to set the Wavit to be a client in infrastructure mode. Then it will talk to any 802.11b access point. People on other boards are reporting success with this.
