LOL, you guys are in the untouchable and the unconvincable demographic. Might as well tune back to the Cartoon Channel or HSN!

It's true that all too many people can be convinced with lies, and the R&R campaign is tribute to that unfortunate fact.

What insult? Bombing a nation to ensure the continued flow of a vital natural resource we need is a good thing.

we need???? dude you really should educate yourself on what countries or better yet what Continent uses Libyan oil.

Basically it's him addressing the left's attacks with "I like women, I turned everything around, I etc" The smirk smug look is annoying as hell.

...and Obama never sticks his nose in the air and never has a smug look when he speaks.

Both parties are annoying as hell. In all the speeches I've seen, Obama comes off as more arrogant/elitist. I guess I understand how the other side sees Romney as an elitist. I love watching liberals and conservatives, blinded by ideology, slamming the opposition. Both sides are guilty of some form of elitism, dirty politics, disinformation and saying whatever it takes to win. When I vote this year, I'll have to stand there and decide which pile of bullshit I'm willing to eat for the next four years.

Might have had higher numbers if he was in his late forties or early fifties but he still wouldn't have won. The GOP wasn't built in a day. Far too many old white people clinging to those neoconservative values.

Times are a changing though.
Maybe..but the cancer is inoperable now. You will find that the fiat easy money crowd comes in many hues and ages. Both old, young, black, brown and white frequent this club...consider Zimbabwe. The poorest of poor in that country were at one time trillionaires...but it took 100 of those trillions to buy one loaf of bread. They dumped their dollar for ours after defaulting...boy did we fool them!

Seriously, this is one of the worst acceptance speeches I have ever heard.

Poor, smug Mitt. Watching him pause and look so smirkily self-satisfied is painful to watch.

Dudley Do-Wrong. He just can't connect.

There was absolutely nothing of substance as far as any plan of action to fix anything.

It was all bash Obama and the U.S. is in bad shape because of Obama.

Republicans are pathetic.

They should be banned and banished from the U.S. as Treasoners.

You should lead by example being that you voted for Bush and all, show them how to properly ban and banish themselves.

I was going to join in the conversation but, I see from the responses thus far there's no one in this thread that will give serious consideration to any counter points offered on behalf of Romney, so why bother. Continue with your hate fest.

Perhaps I'm mistaken. I thought from the title that the thread was about Romney's acceptance speech. Obviously, the OP thinks Romney did a poor job. The first reply thinks he did a fine job. Then all of a sudden, the thread turns to talking about bombing Libya and wars that Bush started? Who derailed this (the admin asks rhetorically)? -Admin DrPizza

Stay on topic please.

I covered that earlier with cybrsages dumbass joke.

And ppl please, I know Obama is a rich elitist socialist commie illegal or w/e. Romneys look reminds me of any tvshow or movie where the main actor screws with the process and then looks humbled that they won.

Ok, so color me shocked, people who are hard core Obama supporters don't like Romney's speech. Obviously if you hate Romney\Republicans\Conservatives, you're going to hate the speech, and you weren't going to vote for him anyway. I'd be more curious to see how the speech played with various voter blocks that are in play.

The next President of the US, number 45.

Want to bet?

I have been discussing political matters on these forums since years before there was a P&N forum (if memory serves, this forum was created in 2003 or so). I am prepared to bet you that if Romney wins the election, I will cease posting in P&N (though not necessarily the other forums) for a minimum of four years. In exchange, if Obama wins the election, you must cease posting in P&N (though not necessarily the other forums) for a minimum of four years. If Obama wins, you will not claim, as you have with respect to your bet on the nomination, that somehow Romney wasn't actually running, or any other hedge - you will just leave this forum and not return until after Election Day, 2016. Obviously my term is only binding if you accept the bet, and I will have no obligation to refrain from posting unless you accept and Romney wins.

Sound good? Since you're so confident in a Romney victory, this should be a win-win for you.

The "election" is already decided. It's going to be Mitt, I don't like it but its pretty obvious to me. It doesn't matter what the vote count is either, they screwed up in 2000 with the votes. I knew it was going to be Bush then too. You heard it here first.

IIRC, he made a similar bet with someone else, lost, and continues to post here...

That's what I meant by his hedging. If memory serves, cybrsage bet that if Romney beat Santorum for the nomination, he would leave, but his hedge is that Santorum withdrew prior to the convention, and thus (according to cybrsage) he wasn't really competing for the nomination, despite having spent millions to do precisely that.

I am eliminating that hedge - if Obama wins, he leaves, even if Romney's plane is struck by a meteor, or he withdraws from the election, or whatever. If Romney wins, I leave, even if Obama somehow passes away, or admits that he is not a natural born US citizen, prior to the election.

I would even be prepared to stipulate that the mods can ban the bet's loser from this forum for four years.

It wasn't a bad speech but I don't think it's going to give me the surge he needs. I really wonder what the Romney/Ryan plan is for the next sixtyish days - maybe just spend like hell on TV ads and stay away from making mistakes in person? That would be pressing their major advantage (money).

As opposed to your "already drank the Kool-Aid and is now experiencing a numbing sensation in the brain" demographic? Mitt Romney could have gone up there and announced he wears kitten skin condoms while he sodomizes boy scouts and you'd still be in here shilling for him, because, as best I can tell, that is what they pay you for.

Well, your messiah will have his turn next week. Just make sure you have a thick towel under you when you watch his speech. That way when you wet yourself with excitement you won't ruin your furniture.

I too would opt in to this same wager with DVC. With one caveat. It also includes any/all of cybrsage's alt accounts.

Believe it or not I never even thought of that, since it has never occurred to me to have an alternate account.

The loser would have to agree to refrain from starting a new account or posting under an alternate account for the entire four-year period, and be subject to permanent ban from all of forums.anandtech.com if found to be posting under any alternate account.

The same bet is available to spidey07, who has also expressed great confidence that President Obama will lose in his re-election bid.

I'm watching it on cnn now and i must say, Romney has the most annoying voice I have ever heard. If you listen closely his voice almost sounds like one of those old reel to reel tape deck players.

The speech was little different than what he's been saying on the campaign trail. I don't see it likely to sway any of the remaining undecided voters, if they even watched the convention. The debates is where I expect to see some actual movement..one way or another.

The standout moment of the convention thus far has been Christie. I don't particularly care for him or his policies but he was effective and energetic. A vast improvement from the Weekend at Bernie's treatment that the RNC is giving Romney in order to convince people that he's a living human being.
