lets say you're using Orange Juice as a mixer.

Any difference if you're using Patron for a Tequila Sunrise?

Or Aristocrat vodka for a Screwdriver?

Will the OJ overwhelm the fine top shelf and mask the deficiencies of bottom shelf?

Note:
I consider Patron to be top shelf tequila, and Aristocrat is bottom shelf vodka

I've used shitty vodka in a screwdriver, and Belvedere. The difference is noticeable.
But if you're just trying to get fucked up, go for the cheap stuff.

The reason why mixed drinks were invented in the 20's was to cover up the taste of the bad liquors. You don't have to use the crappiest stuff but I see no need to use expensive stuff when you're not going to be tasting it anyways.

depends, do you make your drinks with a "splash" of juice? then get the good stuff. Or, if you drink like a woman, get the shitty stuff, you won't taste it.

come to think of it real men don't drink juice drinks, now do they?

I don't do mixed drinks, but if I were putting out liquor for others, I'd use mid range liquors. Johnnie Walker Red for scotch would be a good example there.

Johnnie Walker Red is the bottom of the Johnnie Walker brands, right?

what do you mix Johnnie Walker Red with?

1. Tequila goes by taste of product.

2. Real vodka is just distilled alcohol and water, it's not supposed to taste anything but diluted ethanol, adding perfume is up to the nutters who buy 40% ethanol and water with a hint of some perfume for 10x the price of the cheapest variety.

Patron is good tequila but Aristocrat is as good of an ethanol/water mix as any other vodka, it's supposed to taste as little as possible.

Why do you care though? You should know that the best drink is always Laphroaig, ten years, not the sixteen years piss water, always straight up with a few drops of water.

If you don't know that, you shouldn't drink.

I just pulled that out of my ass because I know scotch better than other spirits :^D

You can mix it with Drambuie for a Rusty Nail. Mix it with vermouth for a Bobbie Burns. I doubt you'd mix it with fruit juice. Of course, I can't imagine mixing any spirits with fruit juice :^D

Tequila goes well with fruit juice in the morning.

They saw impurities and preservatives cause a hangover. Bud Light gives me an instant headache because of the preservatives. I wont buy cheaper than smirnoff for vodka or cuervo gold for tequilla. I typically will stay away from the bottom shelf cheap stuff and go with the mid-shelf spirits.

Even so-called vodka experts can't tell the difference between topshelf vodka and shit when it's in a mixed drink. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a snob.

LOL, yeah, it's not the alcohol content and the amount, it's how it's fucking mixed that fucks you up....

Not too fucking bright, are you?

I think he is referring to having less of hangover with premium spirits versus rail.

In my (moderate) experience there are many other factors besides the name brand of the spirits in the drink involved in how you feel the next morning. IE: certain types of spirits have higher impurity levels than others, what you eat with it, how much water you drink with the alcohol, weather/environment (dehydration), nutrition/replacing vitamins/electrolytes lost due to the diuretic effects of the ethanol.

Fusel alcohols/congeners are theorized as one of the contributing factors to a hangover and they can vary among types and quality of spirits. (More expensive liquor is not always better, but I don't have my citations handy)

Almost none. The heavier the mixer the less difference the booze makes. Most people can't distinguish between booze anyway, especially ATOT children whose sole experience with alcohol comes from ads in Maxim magazine. If you're mixing screwdrivers any vodka is fine. Something like bourbon and water there might be a noticeable difference.

theres probably a difference but not worth it if mixing with 'juice'. Only get Goose/Patron etc when drunk neat/on the rocks etc.
