I've got this Kingston SSDNow V200 Series SV200S37A/128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-alone drive) in computer along with 650GB free space on my HD. Windows and a few other programs are on the SSD with 85.1GB free space.

I put as many programs as I can get to work right on the HD...but added it after build and is a pain to swap things over.

Anyway, my question is can I add a Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)..will it work with the V200?

H61M/U3S3 Motherboard..just downloaded the SATA 3 driver and it's working..and that just reminded me my SSD is connected to SATA 2..should I switch it to a SATA 3 connection?

If no real benefit I won't rock the boat.

Thanks for any info on all this

Yes, the SSD will just act as a storage drive, just like any HDD (if that's what you are asking.) I would plug it into the SATA3 port.

Thanks for quick replies...I only have one SSD and a HD in computer now and the SSD is connected to SATA 2 connector. Should I switch it over to a SATA 3 connector?

I don't have the other SSD yet..just getting things clear as to what and how I can do the upgrade I'm going to in near future.

Just FYI... as far as 'upgrading' I would go for a 256GB SSD, not another 128GB. There are performance increases that come with the bigger SSDs, and one drive is usually easier to manage than two, etc.

With the costs of SSDs coming down to below .50/GB, it doesn't really make sense to go with a 128GB SSD unless you are under an absolute budget restraint or it's for a special purpose (i.e. HTPC, etc.)

OK, thanks Charlie that's what I'll do. Should I switch my existing SSD from SATA 2 to SATA 3?

If the switch is risky I'll just leave it as is.

Yes, you should put it on a SATA3 port. Make sure you shut your machine down first, change ports, boot up. It should all be good, very low risk.

There should be no problem at all if you mix different SSD's, should you decide to do so. I have a Samsung 840 120GB with my Windows installation and a few programs on it and also a Crucial M500 480GB with programs on it. They work flawlessly together.

I switched it over yesterday and it cut the boot time in half and seems to be a little quicker in everything else also.
Neweggs got a 120GB SSD at $55 and I"m having a hard time not getting one and moving my OS only to the 120GB SSD putting a few programs on the 128GD SSD that I can't get to work on my HD and putting everthing else on HD 650GB free.

But, I don't know how to configure all that if I went that route.

Thanks again

Configure smigular........If you are set on getting another small SSD, put them in a raid & they will be even faster

just keep your HDD for back-up, in case the raid array goes kaboom..

However, I agree with the other posters that the 250/256GB & larger SSD's are generally faster overall than the 120/128's, and the price per $$ has gotten to the point recently that it just doesn't make sense NOT to buy them ..

Glad to see you came to your senses though on the SATA II/III connections

I held off of the two small SSD's and decided to upgrade memory from 4gb to 8gb. Don't think my board supports Raid H61M/U3S3.

I'm also going to try a get more programs off my existing SSD onto the HD. I let a few slip past me when downloading. When it doesn't give option for where to download they automatically go to C.
