I need my White Sox games - but live in Alabama - I have looked into At Bat 11 but it requires IOS 4 and the only apple device allowed in my house (iphone 3g that my daughter uses as an ipod touch) has issues when upgraded to IOS 4 so that is a no-go. Any other alternatives, Windows preferably to view the broadcast. I also do not want to go the route of 150.00 mlbtv sub.

Who placed the limitation of what kind of electronics are "allowed" in your house?

Also, I'm confused, do you want an iOS app or a windows app?

Do you want to "view the broadcast" as in view the TV feed? At Bat 11 allows that only with a MLB.TV subscription.

What exactly are you looking for?

Mean old dad (me) placed that restriction. It a joke mostly to rib my daughter about. I would prefer a windows app but am open to anything really, just if an IOS app it would have to work on IOS 3.3. When we upgraded her device to IOS we had a lot of stuttering issues in apps and it was just generally slow so I downgraded her back to 3.3. I would love to see the live broadcast but even being able to download a capture of the game (if legal) would be great. I was a little torn as to which section to post this in since it does deal with an IOS app, but I am looking for the alternative to that app.

So you want to watch video of the game on your Windows machine?

I doubt there is any way of doing that without a MLB.TV subscription. MLB is in crazy control of their pix. Even the ESPN SportCenter app on the iPhone has to blur out the MLB highlights!

I would kill to be able to watch the 49ers games, but, alas, I do not know anyone with a Slingbox.

I am not sure they are that popular in my circles.

Not in Chicago

Found a local am station that streams but they did not cover last nights game. Better than nothing so I will gladly take it

Have you tried a more recent version of iOS like 4.2.1 or 4.3.1? They supposedly have fixed a lot of the issues that plagued iphone 3G users since the first 4.0 upgrade.

It was also discovered that if you disabled the spotlight search locations it would help.

Have you tried some of the offerings from ESPN? I believe they have radio of every game for a fee.

As everyone else has already noted, if you want to watch live games your options boil down to 2 things:

1) MLB.tv streaming
2) Placeshifting through a device like a Slingbox located in the White Sox broadcast area.

No one is legally streaming MLB games outside of that - in a club's broadcast zone they have exclusive rights (which are normally sold to a Regional Sports Network), and outside of that the MLB has exclusive rights. Ultimately this really isn't even an application question, the real question you're asking is if you can get MLB games streamed for free.

Now if you want to listen to games you have a couple more options. MLB sells an audio service (Gameday Audio) for $20/year. Overall audio broadcasting rights aren't nearly as tightly held since they're not as valuable, so you may find local radio stations simulcasting the game online, but most of the time they're not supposed to be doing that so don't be surprised if you can't regularly listen to games without paying.

WOW ASSume much... The real question was as asked. The way I understood MLB at bat for the idevices was that you could buy the app and have out of market games streamed to your device. I was not aware that this service also required a MLBtv sub to view. I would be willing to pay for a service that would let me watch the games, just had read some pretty bad reviews about the mlbtv sub. I do not see where I was asking for a free way to watch the games. I will check out the Gameday audio sub and see how that works out for me.

My apologies, I didn't mean any negative implication by that. Since you mentioned MLB.tv in your first post, I thought you were aware that it was the only way to watch MLB games online, and that all applications are merely an interface to that service.

Actually, it did appear from your question that you did not want to pay for whatever it was you were looking for.

A suggestion for the OP, The Apple TV 2 and a MLB.TV subscription works wonders for this.

Its kinda pricy at $20/month (or $100) for the season, but it almost guarantees you'll be able to watch the games.
