There are only 15 or 16 games left, not 25.

St. Louis - they have the easiest remaining schedule (CIN and WAS will be resting at the end getting ready for the playoffs).

Philly has a 1.5% chance of making it. I think LA has a good shot but it's anybody's call at this point.

I hate the new wild card system. The idea is sound in that it keeps more people interested all the way to the end, but the idea of a one-game playoff between teams that are separated by several games in the standings is ridiculous. Especially when the wild card team with the better record may have a record good enough to be #1 in the other wild card's division.

The Padres.

I'm actually amazed at how well they finished the season this year. They may get to within a couple of games of .500, and that's a lot better than what I expected.

I view it as a way to make it more interesting but also a way to make it a bit harder for the wild card team to make it past the first real round of playoffs. I'm not sure how they scheduled it, but forcing a team to travel for one game, then travel immediately again for a 5 game series, could make it a bit more difficult for them.

Not just that, but now your forced to put your Ace on the rubber for one game to give yourself the best chance which is going to completely bork your pitching rotation for the next series.

No sir I don't like it.

I'm not really a fan either but I think the strategy involved in the play-in-game brings an exciting element. Nightmare for a manager.

Traditionally in a 5 game series you see your ace in game 1 and 4 (if needed). Well now, if you pitch your ace, he will be available for games 2 (short rest) & 5. If I'm a manager and I'm in that position, I pitch my number 2 guy in the play-in-game. Even in a one-and-done scenario. Wainwright or Loshe on the hill give me just as much a chance to win as a healthy Carpenter does, IMO.

I was thinking the same thing. It's encouraging and considering it's a lot of young guys under team control for awhile the next few years they should be competitive. Especially when they get their pitching back (Leubke, Stauffer, Wieland and Moseley)

*sigh*

my Pirates have let me down ... AGAIN.

After YEARS of disappointment I have been conditioned for this. At least they may actually finish above .500 and have a winning season - that is something. That and the fact that we have "Cutch"

Could be worse (not much, but worse nonetheless) you could be a Cubs fan. At least the Pirates won something back in the 80s I think.

Besides the Phillies, I feel Atlanta will be able to handle any of the other teams so it really doesn't matter.
