An absolutely embarrassing series against the Rockies. They look dead and the pitching was pathetic all around. The Mets are lucky at the rest of the NL Least SUCKS.

I think its high time that Mets fans realize that this team is not even close to last year's. The bullpen outside of Feliciano and Wagner is awful. Mota is absolutely garbage. Why the hell did Omar reward this fool with a 2 year deal??? Schoeneweis is trash, Smith who I like has come down to earth big time. Folks need to remember that Smith is just one year out of college! Mets need to be careful with him as he gets more work on his inexperienced arm. Heilman serves up meatballs on a regular basis and has worn out his welcome.

The second base situation is not as good since Valentin has lost a ton of range due to his leg brace. Easley is a good bench guy and not much else. Can Willie give young Ruben Gotay a damn shot and let him play everyday?? The Mets need to know if they have a steady, everyday player in him! Delgado is a bust this season and should be lowered in the lineup (6th at least), Franco should be released and the Mets need an ACE. Not a middle of the rotation guy like Buerhle... an A C E!

I still think the Mets have enough talent and resources to make the postseason but this team has lots of serious issues and is not as fun to watch as last year's.

Again Pelfrey gets no support at all!

How about getting some runs and ease the pressure on the kid?

He looked good tonight apart from that one inning
Would be interesting to see the difference mentally if he had a few runs to play with or even - GASP - a lead?

wow i am really looking forward to the all star break, maybe they will look at themselves and see how horrible they have been playing. The Mets should be at least 7 games ahead of anyone in the division

boy...Reyes getting benched was something to see. The lack of fire on this team and the horribly inconsistent hitting is very frustrating to see. I hope the benching of Reyes sends a message because I think Willie has had enough of all the lollygagging from this team.

As usual they made a mediocre pitcher in Wandy Rodriguez look like a total stud. Figures...

Randolph said that in previous generations, players would police themselves to ensure everyone played the game right.

"You hardly see that any more," Randolph said with regret. "And that's the way it should be.

"When I played the game, Thurman Munson would jump my butt if he saw anything like that - or Roy White or one of those guys.

"So yeah, you don't see much of that any more. And that's unfortunate. That's really where it should be taken care of, amongst your peers and amongst your teammates."

Randolph said Moises Alou, who is still out with a sore left quadriceps, is an old-school player who probably would feel comfortable speaking up in those situations.

no wonder we dont have any heart...even Willie says the old guys don't yell at anyone to start a fire under their ass, we all know Willie probably has never yelled at anyone

Right now the only one I hear that seems upset by this season is Wagner...what the hell is wrong with this team??? 1 hit away from the World Series and the next year they all just give up?!?!

I would understand it if we were being blown out of every game due to pitching, but our pitching has been 1000 times better then we could have hoped for and we still are playing like crap...ugh

Mets fire Rick Down and hire... Rickey Henderson (!!!!!) as the hitting coach. Rickey has no coaching experience but the lessons he instilled on Jose Reyes plus all the things he can teach the younger players are invaluable. On top of that he should have the respect of everyone on that team due to his wonderful hall of fame career.

This is a surprising move and it looks like the Mets are not gonna take any crap in the second half.

Also, it looks like Lastings Milledge will join the team during the Reds series this week. Its a prime opportunity for him and I hope he makes the best of it.

something needed to be done and I am glad it has.
Mets batting with RISP has been shocking.

I heard a rumor that Henderson may be hired as 1st Base Coach, moving HoJo to hitting coach....which makes more sense to me....but I guess we'll see

From the Mets' website, what you said is true.

When Lastings Milledge gets officially called up tonight he will be taking the roster spot currently occupied by.... Julio Franco!! The Mets mean business in the second half and it looks like they are going to be making tons of changes by the trading deadline.

Also of note.. Wagner was talking to Oswalt who just said he will waive his no trade clause to any contender that NYC isn't a bad place to play. mmmm...

Mets to part ways with Franco

If Franco decides to retire I do hope the Mets keep him in the organization in some capacity as he is great for the game..just not great as a player at this point.

good move I think..... as much a great leadership presence he was in clubhouse, from a playing point of view he has been a waste of roster space.

hopefully the addition of Henderson to the staff will help fill that veteran void.

Mets signed Marlon Anderson who was designated for assignment by the Dodgers to a minor league deal and he will report to Triple A New Orleans immediately.

Very busy day for Omar eh?

nice series overall against the Reds, the only disappointment being John Maine's outing

Milledge seems to be settling in well, had a couple of important contributions already

Gotay is looking great, not totally sold on him for our everyday 2nd baseman just yet, but looks to a better option than Easley or an injured Valentin.

Also nice to see Perez back today and looking sharp.

This next week will be a good test to see where this team is at right now....two tough series against Padres and LA.

Really amazing how this team is still hanging on (by a thread!) to first place. They sure aren't playing like a first place team and hasn't been since May. They really have been playing some garbage baseball and really doesn't look like a good team at all.

The Carlos' have been AWFUL. Carlos Beltran (or C-Minus which I call him) hasn't hit one homer with a runner in scoring position. NOT ONE! His avg with risp and 2 outs is .121 with a .152 slugging percentage. ATROCIOUS! Same goes for Delgado. Just terrible! Valentin is not playing well at all and with that leg braces the little range he had is almost gone yet stupid Willie puts him in the lineup instead of Ruben Gotay who has been pretty darn good.

LoDuca hasn't done much lately and can't throw runners out (more the pitchers fault sometimes) though Castro has been great. Reyes and Wright are doing well though not exactly outstanding like last year. Reyes swings at the first pitch and pops up WAY too much now and Wright is near 80k's and is on pace for a 150K season. Incredible.

The pitching has been fine and I honestly can't complain about that. The pen has its ups and downs and at this moment I only trust Feliciano and Wagner. Smith is a year from pitching with the Cyclones so I can kill the kid. Heilman has thrown way too many meatballs, Mota is not so good and Schoeneweis has been a total disappointment.

This team has not just been underachieving but frankly they are not that fun to watch. When the Mets are down a few runs I'm not confident like last year that they can make a comeback. There is a total lack of energy and if you've noticed in the last homestand against the Reds that the fans are getting tired of the team and started to boo everyone. Luckily Milledge (who talks too much for someone who has done so little) saved the day a few times. Imagine Lastings not getting those clutch hits??

Omar still has lots of work to do. Any thoughts?

the team is so damn inconsistant and unpredictable.

Regularly struggle against very average or poor pitchers, then go beat up Peavy last night.

Agree they are very lucky to still be clinging to 1st.

Regarding trades, I really do not hear many names being mentioned that fill me with excitement....Oswalt is the only one, but I think thats a long shot. But as for signing someone like Contreras or Dye....no thanks!

Willie Randolph is a damn moron sometimes. He left Joe Smith who is a year past pitching in freakin BROOKLYN against a lefty (who do well against Smith as opposed to righties) with 2 outs and 2 runner in scoring position instead of going with the sure hand in Feliciano. I don't get it one damn bit. Oh wait.. I do.. he's an idiot!

I really don't care for his bullpen management one bit. He manages by guts and not by numbers.

blum'mer is a switch hitter. but i see what you're saying, he appeared to be scuffling a bit so why not bring in your shutdown guy. also, blums average batting left-handed is better than right so why not play by the percentages and make him switch to right.

by the way, i hope the mets win their next 4 games. i hope glavine gets win #299, i hope perez is as sharp as his last start since coming back from the dl, i hope sosa gets some run support and i hope el duque is as filthy as he's been the past couple of games. good luck in this upcoming series.

The Mets spot Tom Horrific 9 freakin runs in 3 innings and that jackass Glavine throws batting practice. Its only the 3rd inning as of this post and I'm annoyed as hell.

How 'bout Marlon Anderson being put in the lineup and contributing beautifully all around?? He did a nice job in his first stint with the Mets and he's back with a bang.

Its great that the Mets win but Glavine still annoyed the crap outta me with his corner nibbling. I was nervous right to the very end when that fool Mota looked like he was about to give the game up. Willie did his best not to use Smith, Feliciano, Schoenewies and Wagner and they were able to get through. Aaron Sele did a great job as well when he came into a bases loaded, no out jam that Tom Horrific got in to.

I hope Ollie Perez fairs much better.

went to the only game the lost against the dodgers...doh!...that 2 run error on the double play ball was HORRIBLE! Gotay didn't get it within 20 feet of Delgado

so read this in the NYPost-
The Mets technically have an issue at second because Jose Valentin's fractured right tibia could keep him out for the rest of the season. But Minaya insists the Mets have internal solutions and that he doesn't plan on pursuing trade for a second baseman

what is this magical internal solution and why aren't we using it yet???

*I like Gotay but is he going to do as well as he has all season??

nice to come back from the wild west with a winning record, especially against two teams who have been very hot.

Now facing 2 teams at home we should be "making hay" against to quote Gary Cohen
Good chance to put some daylight between us and the Braves

Anderson Hernandez has been brought up from New Orleans where he has been doing very well. I really like him as a player, great defense, great speed....just can't hit in the bigs (pleeease prove me wrong!!!)

If the rest of the team hit as they should, I think we can carry a "defensive" 2nd baseman
