Why is the baseball season so long?
I grew up a Met fan and knew every player in the game for a while... baseball cards, the whole deal. But as time passed, my interest did too. I'm not just a hater ranking on baseball. I really would like to know the answer to my question. Is it for revenue? Is it because it matches the weather? What other sport makes you watch an ungodly amount of games to determine a 1st place team?.. or wildcard teams? Why play so long just to have only the 4th best team in the league even make the postseason? This is why mid-season I completely don't care (and especially seeing the same teams a few nights in a row makes them uninteresting) until the final few weeks again.
Yeah, you can't really be a casual fan of MLB. You have to want to keep up with the stats, know the players and really pay attention to the nuances of the game to enjoy it. This is why I try not to go with friends who are 'casual' fans of the game/teams. The beer helps though.
Yeah, nothing is worse than going to a late season game with a "fan" who has only watched 3 games so far. Every strikeout or groundball is an "oh man, this guy sucks!!!!"
