The Mets and Johan Santana have agreed to a 6 year extension worth up to $148 million bucks.

The deal is believed to be for $148 million total -- $135 for six years on top of the $13 million for 2008 his Twins contract called for. It is believed about $7 million of the new money will be paid as a signing bonus, bringing Santana's '08 take-home pay to about $20 million.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

burgos=TJ surgery - he'll start a rehab around midseason.

TJ surgery i believe is about an 18 month recovery before rehab.

What is up with all the damn injuries this spring training?? Beltran and Castillo have yet to hit the field, Marlon Anderson and Ryan Church collide and are not back yet, Delgado has a hip issue, Schneider with a tight hammy, Gotay has a sprained ankle, El Duque with a massive bunion and now Alou is out for 6 damn weeks because of a hernia.

FIRE THE STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACHES! ok thats a bit much but man..tons of injuries!

What's up with Alou? Is he on the DL to start the year?

I'm a Yankees fan, not a Mets fan, but I am looking forward to catching some Mets games this year. My Mets fan friends and I are going to go to some Yankees and Mets games together to check out the last years in Shea and Yankee stadiums. I'm psyched that the season is finally going to get under way!

Yea, he's on the DL as he had surgery to remove a hernia. Not good for the Mets as they are VERY left hand heavy after Beltran and they couldn't get a right hand outfielder with pop. Pagan is lefty which doesn't help matters.

Mets win the opener against the Marlins with Johan getting the W. Santana goes 7 innings, 2 ER and 8k's. The two runs comes off a 2 run homer by Josh Willingham who always seems to kill the mets. Whats up with him!? LOL

Pedro goes tomorrow night and hopefully can go far into the game and pitch well.

Very possible, unless someone on a "weaker" team carries a team to the playoffs.

I'd probably have to give him the nod... I think Hanley could win it but the Marlins are awful.

Mets lose and boy was it a bad game. Pedro with a strained left hammy and I think he won't be back for a long time. Mets left a bunch of runners on the bases and in the end Matt Wise left a hideous hanging breaking ball and gives up the walkoff homer to Andino.

Oliver Perez goes tomorrow against Andrew Miller who pitched well against the Mets last year in Detroit. I guess we'll find out tomorrow how bad Pedro is. I figure Sosa will do a spot start in place of Pedro.

Geez.

What are we looking at - a hope for Pelfrey, Tony Armas Jr. a trade with Pittsburgh for Matt Morris (AND X-MAN XAVIER NADY? OR JASON "RUSSOS ON THE" BAY????) for some of the mets (non existent outside of FMart) high level talent and contract eating?

I hope the wilpons are hungry - bc they just may have to eat a big chunk of contracts to trade for someone.

OH YES!

Oh my...poor Pedro...Mets in trouble already.

Actually even without Pedro I'm not worried about the Mets starting pitching that much ... with him out they are still stronger then last season in that department because after swapping Glavine for Santana the staff is pretty much intact.

My worry is that the Mets had plenty of trouble scoring runs last year & offensively the team is far weaker now.

Pedro has been placed on the 15 day DL and Nelson Figueroa has been called up. Pedro's MRI was taken later than expected so results won't be known until the gametime. Hopefully nothing too serious. El Duque isn't available for a start (or else he would have gotten the call) so we won't know if Sosa or Figueroa will get a spot start if not more.

update! Pedro has a mild strain which will keep out of action for 4 to 6 weeks. Afterwards he'll have to do rehab starts so... see ya after the all star break Petey!

Game was rained out yesterday and will be made up on May 20th (day/night doubleheader). Today it'll be John Maine vs Tim Hudson (weather permitting) and tomorrow its Johan Santana vs Tom Glavine. Hudson is always tough against the Mets and I expect him to have a great year. Hopefully The Maine Event can take care of business and the Mets can get to Hudson early.

As for tomorrow Johan will have his first test against a good team and a Mets rival. I hope the Mets can tag Glavine early..like maybe 7 runs in a third of an inning?

Nice of Willie to leave a struggling Sosa against Kelly Johnson. Brilliant! Maine wasn't good and the pen save for Smith wasn't good at all.

Smith has a new, higher arm motion for his delivery. Seems to work well for him.

Tomorrow its Santana vs Smoltz. Nice of Cox to take out Glavine and replace him with Smoltz.

I'll miss the game so hopefully when I get home I'll see a happy recap. I'd rather not hulk up!
