Well they did mention some Cubs starters being available tomorrow but guys like Lester who only rely on pure stuff but can't hold runners really limits his use tomorrow

You don't ever rely on starters pitching out of the bullpen. It's a crapshoot. I have a sinking feeling Maddon will play marry-go-round with the bullpen, anytime a walk or a hit is issued he's going to be itching to bring in a reliever...

I was screaming at the TV when Maddon put Chapman in - with 2 outs in the 7th, the Indians would have had to gone back-to-back-to-back homeruns just to tie the game. The bullpen had it covered. It wasn't as bad as the move the Dodgers made bringing in a reliever to match up against Lester in the 4th inning... that was a dumb baseball decision and I'm glad it cost the Dodgers the game, and eventually the series!

FFS, Bryant could have pitched the ninth and the win still be in the bag, that's how much we didn't need Chapman in the game and over-extended...

There won't be a drama-less moment before the final out.

I just realized that the Cubs bullpen beyond Chapman and Montgomery kinda sucks. Yeah, Maddon will need to get really creative tomorrow

2016 season stats:
Trevor Cahill - 2.74 era
Travis Wood - 2.95 era
Pedro Strop - 2.85 era
Mike Montgomery - 2.82 era

Compared to some of the Indians whom Joe Buck couldn't stop mentioning every 5 minutes:
Brian Shaw - 3.24 era
Cody Allen - 2.51 era


Game 7 is simple - if Hendricks pitches to his norm, and the Cubs batters don't swing at junk out of the strikezone, Cubs win.

FFS, Bryant could have pitched the ninth and the win still be in the bag, that's how much we didn't need Chapman in the game and over-extended...

In the post-game interview he said he needed Chapman in the 9th to give the bullpen extra time to warm up, WTF? Put whoever in there at the start of the previous inning. He played it too much like it was game 7 in a situation where they had a comfortable lead.

When Rizzo stepped up to the plate, I said "I hope he hits a homerun right here so Madden will take Chapman out of the game." He hits a homerun, and I'm cheering, then immediately looking for another reliever to start warming up. Nothing. It wasn't until after Zobrist's walk did the call get made to start up the bullpen.

Maddon was intent on keeping Chapman in through the end.

So often, sports chat is dominated by stories of coaches that dial down the intensity and "play not to loose" .. which ultimately results in losing the game.
I'm glad Maddon go into "prevent defense" mode and loose game 6.

It was a gamble, we will see how it goes in game 7, but at least we have a game 7.

Playing not to lose would be like putting in all the defensive replacements around the 7th inning rather than sticking with the better hitters - which Maddon was doing in previous games. Trusting a bullpen full of pitchers with good season eras to hold a 5-run lead late in the game, I personally wouldn't classify as "prevent defense"

Fourtunatly I've fully prepared myself for this epic collapse. What the Indians are doing now is playing good old fashioned Cleveland baseball. That is; getting so close and failing miserably.

I look forward to being the new cubs. The Indians will get to use your old shtick. Wait till next year, loveable losers and all that crap.

Jason Kipnis should have never said things about the Cubs losing in his postgame. I'm sure that's what ignited this powder keg.

I'm going to respond to this again because I have new thoughts today. The more I thought about the move to bring Chapman into the game in the 7th, it just seems it was done not so much to win the series in 7 games, but rather more so to deflect criticism if game 6 were lost. If Chapman blows the game, Maddon always has the excuse that "I put my best guy out there."

Game 5 the Cubs had a 1-run lead and an off day before playing next. Extending Chapman made sense. With a 5-run lead and another critical elimination game tomorrow, different situation entirely. There is a reason why closers are 1-inning pitchers during the regular season and do not pitch in all 162 games.
