anyone try out Diamond Dynasty? seems to be a fun twist on the old franchise mode

otherwise been ripping up rtts with my ss, great game

Have not tried it yet. I'm intrigued by it, but every time I log in I just want to play RTTS.

I found that fielding setting. Just go to the advanced fielding setting and make sure it says button accuracy. Meaning it will throw to the bases the buttons represent.

Thanks. I needed that.

I wish they had fielding practice so you could try out different views and settings without playing a game.

So my season came down to a 3 way traffic jam; the Padres lead the NL West with 4 games to go by 3.5 games, I (Giants) were in second, with the Dodgers a game a half behind me.

Dramatically enough, the last series of the season was a FOUR GAME home stand against the Padres, where I could have outright won the division.
Instead, I dropped the first game of the series, and ruined my chances of that right off the bat.
The Dodgers and I ended with the same record, and had a one game playoff for the wild card spot in LA. Madison Bumgarner against Clayton Kershaw. MadBum goes down with a line drive off the face in the 3rd, but my bullpen absolutely saved my ass (Kyle Kendrick and Sergio Romo specifically), giving up 4 hits all game and NO runs, and I won 3-0.

I took a quick 2-0 lead against the Padres in the NLDS, lost game 3 on a bloop single in the 10th inning, but won the series 4-2 on a walk off homer by Hunter Pence in Game 4.

So now I'm in the NLCS against the Reds, and have fallen into a quick 0-2 game hole in Cinci.
The first game I lead 1-0 through the bottom of the 8th, til Brand Phillips homered with one man on to make it 2-1, and I was unable to score.
Game Two was a disaster after the 5th inning. I trailed 3-0 going into the 6th, but the lead ballooned quickly to 4-0, then five to nothing by the 7th. My bats were simply anemic and have been since the Padres series, I ended up getting blown out 7-0.

The series shifts back to SF, but down 0-2 and with an offense that has failed to score more than 2 runs in the last four games, it's going to take a miracle.

This is why I love this game! Great recap; it sounds intense.

I just started a franchise, with the Giants as well. Pretty fun.. fast pitch is awesome. I just need to pay attention to the counts more. I've struck out a ton of times because I didn't realize I had 2 strikes on me already.

I love this game!

Anybody still playing?

It's been awhile since an update, so I figured I may as well post.
As a self-imposed rule, I never sim Postseason games. And coming into the playoffs as a play-in game winner wild card, it has been a LONG ASS POST SEASON!!!

Picking up where I left off, I was down 0-2 against the Reds. The series shifted back to SF, and I won 3 in a row (5-1, 5-1, and a nail-biter 4-3). It's now 3-2, and back to Cinci. Just one more and on to the World Series!

....aaaand I blow it. Pretty badly too. Lincecum gets the start and it's a 3-0 game by the 6th inning. I do finally get on the board, in the 8th, but not enough to overcome. Game 6 ends 3-1, and the series is now 3-3. No team has won yet on the road, and obviously, each team is undefeated at home.
Game 7 Is Vogelsong against Homer Bailey. With some of the best pitching yet, Vogelsong holds 8 FULL scoreless innings, and Romo cleans up, and I steal a tense win, 2-0. On to the World Series!

So the World Series is against the cross bay rivals, The Oakland A's, who beat the Mariners in seven games.

I win Game 1, 3-2
Game 2 I lose, 3-6
Game 3 I lose, 1-2
Game 4 I win, 5-3
Game 5 I lose, 0-4 (this one was rough. 8 SO, 5 hits (amounting to nothing), and they beat up on Bumgarner in the 5th inning)

Game 6 is back in SF, and Matt Cain pitches beautifully, I win 3-0.

So it all comes down to Game 7 in SF. Tim Lincecum vs. Jarrod Parker. Tense, defensive game throughout, scoreless into the 6th, where I take a 2-0 lead.
By the bottom of the 8th, The A's score two runs off Santiago Casilla (one of my better relievers), and he's done. 2-2 going into the 9th.
Top of the 9th, I put together one of the best offensive innings of the post season, Pablo Sandoval singles an RBI home with 2 outs. Score is now 3-2.
Next up, Hunter Pence homers over the right field wall (which was reviewed, btw, after first being called a foul), and 2 more come into score. 5-2 is the score now going into the bottom of the 9th.

Romo gets a quick out, then gives up two quick hits. Then, on one of the most frustrating plays of the game, the runner on second attempts to steal 3rd, Posey fires over to third in PLENTY of time to catch him, but Sandoval (3B) DROPS the catch. Now runners are on the corners with 1 out.

The next batter pops out in foul territory. 2 out now. Runners on the corners. 5-2 game.

Next batter smacks a high fly to left....and it carries...and carries...and I'm literally shouting at the screen. This would tie the game for the A's if it gets over....

..but it falls into Morse's glove maybe 3 feet before the warning track. Game Over.

So, as much as I love it, and as great as it is...I'm taking a break. A 19 game (straight) post season, going 13-6 overall, I'm gonna take a bit of a break. But I can safely say it remains one of the very best sports franchises out there, period.

And GO GIANTS!!

Awesome! Well done and great recap! I was scrolling slowly so I couldn't skim ahead. to see outcomes before you got there.

I'm in the second month of my franchise with the Padres. We're trying to stay in the hunt, but it has been tough so far, with my virtual players barely outpacing their real life counterparts. But the bats appear to be heating up a bit and pitching is solidifying throughout the rotation.

Just got a PS4. Based on reviews and reading through this thread, it seems like the best game to get for it would be MLB The Show. Can't find it cheap anywhere. $50 seems to be the lowest, is it worth it for that price?

Yea you won't find it cheaper unless you look on craigslist. It will last you a while. There are tons of game modes. I will say its worth it since I play it every now and then.

This would be my first MLB sport game. What should I do to learn the game? I read through the whole thread and it seemed like there were so many different things I could do. I usually am the type to just go into a game and try it, but I feel like there's so many details that that might not work.

I haven't tweaked one slider yet, so you should be able to just jump right in. By "learn the game", I'm assuming you don't mean the game of baseball in general.

When you start a game, you can choose the Beginner setup at the controller / team select screen. You should also change difficulty settings for Batting and Pitching to Dynamic, and hitting to Timing only. Play an exhibition game and you should get to experience all the basic facets of a ball game. Then you can jump into a franchise, diamond dynasty, or road to the show with no big questions, I'd think.

Operation Sports has a very good forum dedicated to this game with a lot of veterans there to learn from.

I have my sliders tweaked to make it a bit easier for me. It's still pretty tough though at times. I would do the batting and pitch practice and then start road to the show.

Make sure you set your pitch setting to button accuracy in the options.

I play using THESE sliders from Operation Sports.

The only thing I've tweaked is upping Human Power to 5. And I do pure analog pitching and hitting, not metered or zone.

It's a more challenging set, and seems to produce quite real-world numbers and stats, which is what I want. Had I breezed through the post season, I would have had to tweak them a bit, because that's just not realistic with my current roster. But going 13-6, all human contolled, felt fair to me, especially the outcomes.

Just finished up the 2014/2015 offseason, heading into the 2015 season.

Not a lot of major, big time free agents, and almost no major moves for my Giants.

Quite a few contracts were up though, and I decided to renew most all of them. The big ones:

--CP Sergio Romo. By far the biggest contract (~11mil/year for 5 years) Was hesitant to do it at first, but the number of close late games in The Show makes a good CP worthwhile, and Romo is that.
--RF Hunter Pence
--1B Brandon Belt
--LF Michael Morse
--SS Brandon Crawford (offered arbitration)

I acquired 2B Aaron Hill off waivers at the end of last season from the Diamondbacks, and had hoped to resign him, but he wouldn't accept my offer and was stolen out from under me by the Dodgers. That's disappointing, because now I only have the aging 39yo Marco Scutaro at 2B, and no good prospects coming up.

My one and only free agent acquisition, and it was a good one, was picking up SP Johnny Cueto from the Reds in a 4 year deal worth about 8mil/year. He's an 86 rated SP that really gives some punch to my bullpen that already features a strong Madison Bumgarner--Matt Cain--Tim Lincecum--Ryan Vogelsong/Kyle Kendrick rotation.

I also drafted a STUD SP last year who is only 19 and already rated 63 with "A" potential. I figure he'll likely be ready for the majors in the next year or two, right when some of my pricier/older pitching contracts are up.

So I'm planning on starting my new season officially in the next week or so, but if everyone can stay healthy, now with a stronger bullpen, we might have a shot at a repeat!

It's been awhile since I posted in here, but let me just say I am enjoying The Show more and more every day. I am doing a RTTS career as a third baseman and I am in the running for rookie of the year right now. I was drafted by the red sox and did so well that I was pulled straight to the majors from their AA team one month into the season. My average was low for the longest time in the majors (I am not a patient batter and like to swing away) but got better and better. No matter what I have going on, I make sure I have the time to play a game or two a day.

For those who do primarily RttS, how long does a full game take to play through in RttS? On average?

I'm a second baseman and only bat and take fielding opportunities; I don't bother with baserunning. Games take maybe 5 minutes, 10 at the most. If I don't get many fielding opportunities, 3-5 at-bats may take just a couple of minutes. It's the loading time between games that make up the bulk of the time.

Yea the only lazy thing about putting this game in the ps4 to play is waiting through the loading times. But I usually get in and play rtts although it takes time to level up and get better. I keep asking to be traded from the Phillies because they often use me as a pinch hitter and 1st baseman.

Oh wow, I'm kinda jealous.

In Franchsie mode, I'm averaging about an hour or so for a game. Certain games, particularly playoff or division games where I'm being extra patient or strategic, it can be an hour and a half or more. So I end up playing one game, and then usually simming the next 5 or so.
