worth it if he can continue to be the 2 way player he's been so far in his career, I have my doubts he will be able to pitch for that long (he won't pitch again until 2025), but good for him
My opinion is that he won't be a full-time pitcher after 2027. IMO it'll be hard for him to provide enough WAR on field to justify this deal, but a lot of the Dodgers calculus has to be marketing value. I can't remember the last 8+ year MLB deal that aged well? Looks like Miguel Cabrera's 2008 deal aged very well; Adrian Beltre had 8 fine seasons in Texas.
Mike Trout is already a lock for the Hall of Fame, based on his first 8 seasons alone. It looked like he'd rack up 150 career WAR before it's all said and done, but he's had injury-riddled seasons lately.
After Ohtani, the guy who must be loving this deal is Manny Machado, who had already opted out. I forgot about Juan Soto.
