Better luck next year. Judge seems like a good dude, so I hope he finds postseason success in the future.
I also thought the game was over early, but the 5th was about as insane an inning as you'll ever see.

Dodgers prove (again) that you can buy a world championship in baseball.
Yankees handed this series to the Dodgers on a silver platter. If Torres gets his body in front of that throw to second in Game 1 and Cole covers first last night the Yankees are probably going back to LA up 3-2 in the series and with Ohtani looking completely worthless since the shoulder injury (seemed like he'd pop the ball up 80% of the time, strike out the other 20% after) you'd have to think NY would have been huge favorites. Hell even down 3-2 they'd have a great shot with Ohtani looking so bad. As a Dodger fan I'm glad Boone has let the Yankees play like such braindeads all season since these little screwups are what blew the series for them. I'm floored to see so many idiotic plays though. Judge missing the fly ball? It was horrible but it happens. Throw that missed getting Kiké Hernandez was pretty bad but oh well. But Cole not covering first and Rizzo lollygagging to the base while Mookie is busting ass to beat it out? That's gotta be unforgivable if you're a Yankee fan. Then Weaver not knowing the rule that it's a balk if you throw to a base three times and don't get the runner. How does anyone not know that this year? And then Austin Wells interfering with Ohtani's swing when Ohtani is as ice cold as cold gets to just give him a base? Those are the kind of mistakes I expect to see in a little league game, not in an elimination game in the World Series JFC.

6 for 6, 3 Hrs, 2 SBs, 10 ribbies in a single game. Holy crap
I didn't see any of that stuff but they showed his stats in series before the WS, just OMG. Sad he didn't have it but he's happy anyway, he knows he'll recover and show up next year. Led off the whole series, Dave Roberts wasn't going to dis him.

What a waste of hundreds of dollars last night lol. Not to mention they missed the Yankees romp.

But I figure they can resell tonight's tix for a tidy profit.
I don't think so. The tickets went to a couple of needy kids, they showed that last night. Pissed me off seeing that louse prying the ball from Mookie's mitt.

I would sure like to see them fire Aaron Boone. That's just my Red Sox fan shadenfreude. Never forget that walk off dinger in the ‘03 ALCS… 😔

Check my post #45 in this thread. Supposedly they reimbursed those douche bag fans their ticket costs… 🙁

Boone was super outcoached by Dave Roberts in the series. Boone was chewing up sunflower seeds the whole time, it seemed, it was ridiculous. The Dodgers love Roberts!

Shitlol

Not this year!

I guarantee you the Yankees throw Ohtani money at Soto this off season.
I'm a Dodgers fan, and they've had a top 4 payroll every season for the past decade+.
Just because the Mets were more foolish for 2 years doesn't disprove my point. IIRC the Mets are paying Verlander and Scherzer to pitch for other teams LOL.
Also note that most high payroll teams made these playoffs, with a few exceptions of course.

The only reason it's not worse than it already is because there is high variance in baseball. You can stockpile the most talent as the Dodgers have done year in and year out, but there's still a fair amount of injury luck, and random luck/noise in every game. The 5th inning last night alone was testament to that.

I used to be a Moneyball A's fan, but you can only defy MLB economics for so long. Contrast this with the NFL where the national TV deals and revenue sharing makes it possible for Green Bay (and other small market teams) to not just survive, but thrive.

Believe it or not, Ohtani's deal is very team friendly (it's basically a state income tax dodge for Shohei). Since Soto is a Boras client, they will try to extract max pain.

Yeah, they shouldn't have done that. Another reason to root against the Yankees.

It was funny watching Judge, the most intimidating looking batter I've ever seen, struggling. He started to come out of it at the end. Freeman was, like the Yankees' fans realized, "unstoppable!"

The Yankees were too cocky. Especially Soto, it's his thing. And Chisholm's a little dingy with his batters' box tantrums.

I'm not sure it works in the Yankees' favor that their ballpark is so batter friendly.

You will not get an argument from me on any of that. I was just tweaking you for that post. I'm a Dodger fan when they're in the playoffs because of Mookie.

Fuck Yankee Stadium and their short porch in right field!

The Yankees fan that kept showing that ‘FREDDY STOP’ sign was awesome!

As you know, the Dodgers (in)famously spent "a billion dollars" this past offseason. Outside of the fragile Tyler Glasnow, those acquisitions (and trade deadline deals) contributed greatly to the team's WS run: Ohtani, Yamamoto and Teoscar Hernandez. I'm not aware any other current team has 3 former MVPs batting together in the line-up (much less consecutively). Anyway, we're both familiar with how MLB economics works.

A couple things in that payroll list are striking to me. I remember when Theo Epstein spent top-3 money every season (and got the results to show for it). It's a bit shocking to see your Sox all the way down at #12.
Secondly, the Angels are a dumpster fire while spending $173M! Owner Arte Moreno never even made Ohtani an offer, seemingly resigned to the fact that the Dodgers would outbid him. If they decide to jettison Mike Trout, they will have to subsidize the receiving team a LOT of money. 🤣

Yeah, Trout & Ohtani on the same team with no postseason appearances. Epic fail for sure.

It was the regular season game where he joined the 50/50 club as the only member.

Moved my reply from the NFL thread..

I don't know why they don't have automated balls/strikes already. Blown calls are the worst part of baseball. So frustrating.
Yeah that part of the game is horrible. Historically MLB is very conservative. It's kinda wild that they went to a pitch clock and a universal DH in recent years.

To make matters worse, they seem to coddle umps that are really bad at the job (Angel Hernandez was the greatest).

I don't understand this. You think everyone would want to get the calls right. Not trying to cast shade on the umpires. The balls are traveling at 100 mph and moving and the guy who has been standing for 2 hours in the sun wearing black is supposed be able to judge accurately where the ball is 100% of the time.
