Punishment way too weak. NO player punishment at all? That's ridiculous.

Agreed ... And this coming from a Met's fan who would no doubt be looking at serious problem's considering our new manager is right at the center of the controversy.

And the whole report outlines it as a "Player Driven Process" Yet those guys get off without any punishment? It's insane.

Glad Crane at least had some balls to further the 'punishment'. I hope those 2 clowns never work again.

You can almost assuredly bet that there was an "agreement" or at the very least an "understanding" between the MLB and Crane that the MLB would suspend (looking like they did their job) and Crane would in-turn fire (looking like he did his part too).

Don't tell me ownership had no idea this was happening either.

I dunno. To this day, no one thinks kindly of the Chicago "Black Sox."

yeah, but that also involved banning 8 players for life, including shoeless joe jackson

maybe it's because they were intentionally losing instead of trying to win, or maybe because it was related to gambling

it just seems like pete rose got banned for way less

It's just going to be hilarious how the first (and only) world series won by this team will forever have an asterisk next to it lol.

Shouldn't even have an asterisk, it should be stripped from the record books and replaced with "no champion" like 1994 when the World Series was cancelled due to strike. All the execs involved should be banned for life. THAT is the only punishment strong enough to act as a deterrent. What MLB did here is a joke. A couple of scapegoats got hung for an organization-wide problem, they keep the title, they keep the money, they keep the rings and the other guys looking to make a name for themselves are thinking it's worth the risk because the punishment isn't all that strong. Make your millions, sit out a couple of years, come back and make more millions. It's why drug dealers get out of jail and go back to dealing drugs.

I'm an A's fan, not an Astros fan. FWIW Astros claim a handful of other teams also stole signs using technology. I didn't realize that Alex Cora consulted for so many teams all at once.

I certainly don't condone a win at all costs philosophy. However, this isn't the NCAA. Has any major pro sports league ever "vacated" a title? It's not like Rob Manfred is going to declare the Dodgers the 2017 champs, retroactively.

ESPN explained why MLB is not going after players; it doesn't want to fight appeals from the player's union. Also, many of the cheaters are now on different teams. So punishing players opens up a different can of worms. As with the NCAA, a case of lack of institutional control is obviously a serious offense.

What's so tough about that? They could fire him with cause (and go hire someone like Mike Scioscia).

So... basically... unions are a giant turd that helps defend useless employees instead of serving a purpose. Got it.

Hire a new manager in the off-season and he doesn't even make it to opening day? What could possibly go wrong?

Passing on Girardi is looking better and better.

And not sure how old you are but as a life-long Met's fan I still have not forgiven Scioscia for the 1988 NLCS. I have no doubt he's a competent manager but I'll pass on my team.

Right. And the unequivocal message is "It's too hard to punish cheaters, so go ahead and keep cheating". Again, what's the incentive not to cheat? It's win/win. If it works you get a ring and a lot of money and if it doesn't, nothing happens and you can improve your cheating to get better at it.

Defending useless employees IS is the purpose now.

Scioscia was just an example of a guy I'd consider. My main point is that managing baseball isn't rocket science, and you can go out and get a guy who isn't a cheat. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems a lot harder to hire a solid NFL head coach, although the latest trend is to find rough gems like Sean McVay.

Call me crazy, but I don't think Hinch and Cora's coaching careers are over.
