I've been playing this for a few months now, initially I was real excited about the game but as time went on I started to get worried....
First of all, there are many technical issues - random crashes, graphic glitches, bugs etc; well, yes, that's the point of a beta, but some people can't even get past the first few missions! And they're actually the lucky ones for being able to log in, everytime an update is released the patcher gets wonky, players often would have to completely uninstall and reload the files manually themselves...several times. While the team had made good progress fixing the game, but the problems I described above are still happening in an alarming frequency makes it real bothersome for a game that'd been in development since early 2009.
Also, if you're coming from EVE or lusting for a Freespace/TIE Fighter online based sequel....sorry pal, it ain't a living universe where you can slowly build your galactic empire or be an elite fighter pilot in the middle of an epic war, it's no different than your typical F2P arena shooter.
Basically you take a mission from a terminal, get warped to the instanced sector, kill X amount of enemies then jump back for reward, rinse and repeat....of course there are story missions as you grind to certain levels, but they don't deviate far from the standard ones...except with cutscenes. Other than that, there's not much else to do, there are no trade routes or mining runs(a relief for many, I suppose); could fly out to free sectors for open pvp, but it all boils down to who's carrying the most repair drones since lag is pretty bad it'd take a while to kill anyone, sometimes projectile weapons glitch out in the middle of a fight or you may spawn without shields, ridiculous.
Players can customize their pilot with many features but they can't get out of their docked ships and walk around the stations to interact with other avatars...so what's the point of letting someone choose colors for his tatoos? The UI is pretty clunky too, have to wade through waves of non-streamlined menus just to get to what you're looking for..especially not fun during the heat of combat.
Well, maybe I'm being too harsh, but the game is not smooth enough to be enjoyable at this point...and it's gonna be published by a F2P game company, I wonder how much support are they gonna provide?
