I think its going to be a F2P
When I hear FTP I think of no subscription, like Guild Wars. So it's supposed to be entirely free? That makes more sense then.

Snagged a key, gonna give it a whirl. Loved Freelancer so if it's anything like that I'm already interested.
It WILL be free to play + item shop. This was set in stone when Gamigo bought Reakktor.
So I went through the tutorial and it seemed cool, up until I tried to do the first mission. So much lag I really couldn't do anything. I'll try it again, but really, the lag is bad.

I found the same thing, but only in that first sector. The other 2 sectors you had to go to in that mission also had a bunch of people in but didn't lag nearly as bad. I'm not sure why it's so different.
It's numbers. If the other sectors didn't lag, it's because they had fewer players in them.
So what you're saying is for the price, it's worth it? (Price being free, genre being space shooter, competition being none) It's staying on my hard drive even though I haven't played in two weeks. There's nothing else like it right now, so until something better comes along, I'll suffer.
What I'm saying is, it's like any other MMO that enters the market, buggy and laggy.
What alarms me is that there does not seem to be much progress since January. If it hadn't been for the fact that this specific niche has been effectively dead since Freelancer (mini-revival and shout out for DarkStar One), it wouldn't really hold much sway over me.
Anyone having an issue with framerates? I've got almost everything set to it's lowest, except draw distance and it's murdering my machine in 10+ ship firefights.
I know my X2 6000+ (AM2) is aging, probably kicking on for 5 years old in the tech world but this takes the cake!
I'm also experiencing an odd bug. I played the same mission 10 times yesterday, same map, same mission type... but on two occasions, my framerates dropped into single digits and barely made it past 16 all mission. As soon as I got back to base, it was fine and going on the same mission again straight after, was fine too.
I'm running on Pentium D 3.2 w/ 4870 and I've not had any issues with framerates at 1920x1080. My only real issue is lag, bad lag.
