Digital CE purchased and downloading 8.32GB of data now. Looking forward to hopping into this tonight. If anyone has any suggestions as to the best east coast PvE US server to join, I'm all ears.

There's no real best server I don't think.

Some annoyances. Those damned gold spammers. They're back and they're as annoying as ever. Not only will you get spam mail in real life. You'll now get spam mail in your virtual world.

I'd research what archetype you're playing and spec it out for solo action. When you hit lvl 13, immediately get all of your alternative souls and buy your 2nd role which is like 30 gold. You can have up to 4 roles. Right now I got 3 roles. One is my solo which is also decent for group action. Then I've got a healer role for when there's no healer. Finally I got an all out nukage role for raids. The 4th role cost about 22 plats to buy so that's too expensive for me right now.

Several of us are on Estrael. Haven't run into anyone in game yet (so far).

I'm up to 28 now on my warrior. Loving it.

I rolled a Defiant Cleric on the server Endless tonight. It was PvE and was listed as "recommended", so I chose it without question (I noticed Estrael was PvE-RP and I don't care for RP). I played for about an hour or so and really explored the game through the beginning quests. My computer is getting a little long in the tooth but still seemed to run the game decently. The larger open areas bogged me down to 15fps on average, so I may back off the resolution a bit so I can still keep my max draw distance and other stuff.

I was just a few xp away from level 5 when I realized that I was on a PST server due to the clock showing server time. I'd rather be on an eastern server, so I immediately quit and will re-roll tomorrow on another server. It shouldn't take me any more than half an hour to fly through the quests back to where I was.

I started out with a Druid/Justicar build and was mowing down things fairly easily with it. When I was doing the very first quest outside, killing skeletons, a huge-ass mob came walking up the path. One guy started attacking him so I joined in and we took him down. He actually couldn't hit worth a shit and I never lost any health with my shield, but he took a while to bring down and was a pretty neat "first experience" into the game. I don't know where he come from or if he was anything special, but I liked killing some skeletons and then turning around and seeing a lumbering giant standing over twice as tall as the burned out houses in the area.

I did opt for the CE edition as well, so here's hoping the mount and extra bag space early on are worth it.

All the servers are PST time, so don't bother quitting your character. On the forums of servers, some will say unofficial est or etc server but who knows how well that is. I play on Shatterbone which is suppose to be EST heavy, there is always people on when I am playing.

Believe me you will be happy you spent the extra $10 for the CE. Getting that mount is such a time saver and saves you a lot of money in game, and bags are rather expensive for decent size ones (expensive for when you aren't higher lvl) so an extra 4 slots is good shit.

"Restarted" my cleric from beta on Millrush (I think that's where my friend said he's at). Justicar/Sentinel/Cabalist Defiant. We'll see how this goes.

As far as the clock goes - just click on the time. It will toggle between server time and local time.

Yeah, that's how I noticed that the server time was PST. I just don't want to get into the game and level a guy all the way to max, only to find out that I'm trying to end-game with a bunch of people on the west coast.

I don't RP either, but went with an RP server because these days, that tends to be MMO code for "older-age, more mature players roll here."

The RP servers aren't hardcore at all. There are RP guilds of course, and people are RPing in major cities (which I just ignore). However, nobody will jump on you for speaking out of character in general chat channels (the RPers created some RP-only chat channels that they use) or party chat. As long as you don't grief RPers, name your character something like "Legolass," or spam Chuck Norris jokes in general chat, you'll be fine.

There are also plenty of "RP is fine with us if you want to, but it's not required" types of guilds, so if RP is not your thing, you can still find a guild.

I'm just not comfortable with online RP, period. I'm not judging those of you who do like it, to each his own, but I have my own opinions of it and just don't want to be around it.

I'll take Kaotik's word for it and stick around on Endless for right now. I think I'll even take a half day off work to go home and have some wife-free playtime for a few hours.

I don't think there is any way to tell where the server is located.

Well, a week after launch, I'm really enjoying this game. I "still" haven't made it to the upper levels, but the low to mid content is fairly enjoyable. Without rift spawns it would just be another quest-hub-centric grind-fest. Luckily random rifts and rift events, artifacts, and exploring breaks up the monotony very nicely.

I said it before and I'll say it once again, the class / soul system is the best part of this game right now. I would like to see them eventually take it even further and eliminate the four main classes altogether, though, so that you could mix and match souls from each of the four together. It would take a lot of consideration (gear and stats) and a lot of balancing, but that would be a major change that would really shake up the MMO world a year or two down the road.

Hmm... I'm not using cabalist very much after all. Maybe once I start grouping. But I'm thinking I should have taken a soul with moar buff.

Yeah Cab is a nuke/aoe cleric soul iirc - you might find shaman or druid to be a better fit. Don't go druid though, damn fairies.

Yeah, that's actually why I took cabalist in the first place. I figured jack of all trades with Justicar/Sentinel/Cabalist. But hell, the nukes I get with Sentinel are just as good, and I don't run into enough mob groups to make the AOE part useful.

Cleric caster dps is pretty good when you get Fanaticism in the Inquisitor tree and combine it with Soul Drain. I started with Cabalist but have now gone primarily Inquisitor with one role as a Inq/Cabalist for straight dps and aoe farming; second as Inq/Sentinel for warfronts and support; and the third role as sent/warden for healing.

Basically retired from melee cleric since I run with others who do melee builds and need the gear. Also melee cleric is simply far less efficient for leveling compared to the Inquisitor/Cabalist aoe bomber.

Bought the game. Playing a Necromancer/Warlock right now because I want to, not because it is the best class. Just what I wanted to play. Going to add Dominator or Archeon next.

PVE-RP server are actually nice so far - people seem to be "nicer" overall than normal PVE servers. I was actually shocked when someone [level 38] player saw me fighting near a cobalt node and asked "Do you want to mine that node?".

The "wow trade chat" seems to happen in the level 1-9 chat channels which is very nice.

I've so far only encountered one instance of people RP'ng in a tavern - it was pretty interesting to see them sit around and chat it up - but nobody expects you to RP at all - they have their own chat channels and that's ok with me.

Lots of level 50's around - one seemed to be super bored as he was hanging around a defiant area doing nothing really.

I did encounter a bit of accidental PVP - the warrior was 3 levels higher than me and pretty much decimated me before I could blink. He waited around to see if I would respawn pvp flagged - but of course I waited and respawned without the pvp flag. I smiled and rode off into the sunset. [I've since changed the option to not accidentally flag myself PVP - sucks for those who are pvp flagged in major rift events as they won't get any heals].

Level 38 and I'm having a blast. There always seems to be RIFT invasions happening in all zones which makes for a nice distraction from questing.

DAMNIT! Another game that uses a LOT of cpu power. It barely touches my 8800GT-- with most settings turned down and some set to medium it's at about 38% GPU usage. But CPU (E6600 2.4ghz c2d) usage is pegged at 100% no matter what, and most of the time I'm getting 10-20fps. The beta ran fine...

I don't understand what makes these new games use so much power...

I switched to the low quality renderer... GPU usage is down to 5%, and FPS is even lower-- 9fps.

WTF is so demanding? It can't possibly have complex physics operations. And the AI is server side.

You're using a midrange CPU from 5 years ago and stumped on how it might be running slow?
