been playing since beta and like and hate much of it. Im the old school, started on muds, Drakken, meridian 59, UO, EQ, etc...

RIft looks great, playes well and so on, but has some real problems. Quests, not enough, I run out in the areas quickly soon am facing RED mobs and cant complete them. I guess I gotta grind open rifts, which is cool, but boring after awhile. the player base is very helpfull but there are far to many who dont understand MMORPG courtesy.. fight your way thorgh 20 mobs to get to named and sombody who follows you the whole way will attack it the second you engage the last enemy before it. Thankfully they spawn quick (sometimes too quick, instant spawns). Instant running is HARD.. not the instacen, getting in a group... spamming chat channels for a few hours gets old too... that "other" game may have flaws, but the LFG system is about as good as it can get in a MMORPG game. Overall i would say its one of the BEST of the also rans... its not going to dethrone #1 but its a nice game.

As for that other game being copied.. good god.... there where games before it pretty much completly ripped off... Warcraft is in itslef a complete rippoff of LOTR (and they have said as much). It copied EQ which was for a short while the gold standard that proved the popularity of a MMORPG before it (which was stole from a MUD, also admitted)... etc... WOW was not the grandparent of all these games.. its just the one that made it big, combo of choseing the right things to steal (borrow), great art for such a low poly count engine, solo friendly (#1 thing that makes a game huge, wish others would figure that out), more carrots on a stick then you can imagine. HUGE Tracts of land (MP for the win!)... it just got alot right.. at the right time.. but please quit making it the original... its not.. not even close.

How on earth are you doing this? I levelled almost exclusively via questing (I did two dungeon runs during my run to level 50) but didn't have this problem at all.

I had completely the opposite experience as well. My leveling experience was: doing the zone quests, running the dungeon in each zone once to complete the quests within (well, a couple I did twice to help out guildmates), and participated in rifts or invasions as they would happen to pop up while I was questing. I did a few Black Garden warfronts at L18 and L19, but otherwise didn't touch PvP while leveling. Zero mob grinding.

In other words, I'm not a hardcore player by any means. Still, by the time I hit L50 in Iron Pine Peak, I had a few more quests there, plus ALL of the Stillmoor and Shimmersand zones to do. It was to the point that I'd deliberately log out in places where I wouldn't accumulate rested xp bonuses because I felt like I was outleveling the zones.

Now I'm clearing T2 content and my guild is working on Greenscale Blight, and I still haven't finished all the leveling quests in Shimmersand! If I get bored I guess I can farm some easy platinum by knocking them out.

Err... I have nearly no problems getting a group at will. Usually there's several groups LFM posting in chat, and if I drop my char in chat LFG, I'm usually picked up within a minute or two.

Regarding quests and leveling... pssh... my mage hit 50 and I didn't do a SINGLE quest in Stillmoor, and only about half of IPP. There's enough content to choke a horse.

Finally did my first "expert" instance yesterday. I was picked up for DPS so I ran my pyro role more of the time, switching to my SC/domi build when we needed a little cc. It was IT, so it wasn't really a challenge. I died I think twice, both times to bosses where I haven't figured out what the plan was. Other than that, it was fun. I picked up a decent ring and an epic wand. Was fun!

Now I just need to find a reliable place to farm Witchweave and I'll be happy.

I hit 49 and still had all of stillmoor to do. plenty of quests for me, although several guild members said they ran out of quests when they hit 49 and had to grind to 50.

never had a problem of going against red mobs. you must have missed a zone or missed a ton of quests.

Usually play with guildies for instances, otherwise it tends to be a clusterfuck.

Initially I loved the game, but I got up to the mid 30s and am now burnt out. I still think it's a great game, but I can't seem to find the drive to keep leveling.

Maybe I'm just growing out of MMOs in general.

If you "run out" of quests in this game then you completely missed entire zones. There's way more quests than you need to level, and quests from each area generally lead you to the next quest hub. My suspicion if you are out of quests is that you missed going to a zone that you thought was only for the other faction, when the reality is that most zones are for both factions.

IT is the easiest tier 1 but also probably the most boring (huge amount of trash mobs). If you have fun there, you'll like the others even more.

Now I just need to find a reliable place to farm Witchweave and I'll be happy.
Endless Fortress is pretty good (western edge of Stillmoor). After an hour I usually end up with about 90-100 spellspun and 30 witchweave or so, along with any 250+ skill forager and mining mats that spawn there. Great AOE grind area but because plenty of the mobs are ranged you will want an AOE build that can deal with that.

You've probably put 60 hours into the game by now, and it's not surprising that you might get burnt out. I would recommend you simply stop trying to level - play with a few different builds, try some WFs, spend an evening with a rifting build, etc. And if nothing sounds fun then you should play something else, MMO's should never feel like work.

Just give me EQ1 w/ a completely updated graphics engine. That would make me happy.

After being 50 for awhile I think I am going to cancel. Getting into a group just takes far too much time. Maybe I am on a now low population server, but still, I can spam in the 50 channel for an hour before I get bored sitting in Meridian without a group. They seriously screwed themselves by not having a group finder.

So don't sit in Meridian while waiting!

Usually I log in, do my crafting dailies, work on event dailies, then go farm cloth/hide, and if I see someone LFM that I can fit into, I sent a tell. I generally can easily occupy an hour just farming stuff.

Speaking of, I **finally** got my second Crafter Plaque this morning. Just need one more before I can make the ever popular robes of the flowing dark that everybody spams LFOutfitter for.

Killing the bombs are not the problem. We get to his fourth/last phase fine. We use all of the pots and consumables. We just fricking die all the time due to bombs/blinding bombs/wisps.

Let me give you a hint, and it applies to every MMO game out there.

There are a million people "LFG" but nobody has the balls to start up a group.

Instead of saying "Lvl 50 LFG" say "Lvl 50 starting an Iron Tombs group. PST if interested in running"... You will be amazed how many responses you will get.

2 things:

1) Try and find a guild on your server. Many guilds try to avoid running pick up groups if possible because they are like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get.
2) They are adding a LFG tool in the next update which will probably be out next week.

You must collapse to a tiny circle when phase 4 begins, stand in the very center. Once he plants bombs people must move out and there will be space to stand between the bomb explosions and a collapsed wisp circle. Once the bombs explode you have to have everyone run back to the center. By piling everyone in the center you will form very neat bomb placements which makes avoiding them and the wisps easy.

Bombs are AOE'curable as a backup, avoiding looking at wisps should be easy now that they fixed the graphics.

Again, just to reiterate, if you can't get an expert instance group, you're not doing it right. Last night I logged in to 3 groups LFM for expert instances. The first one I replied to was a hair too late for my class (support/dps for x-IT), the second one was happy to take me (x-FLH) even though I had never run it before. I didn't bother with any of the other several that popped up in chat at that point.

Note, I'm NOT in a guild.

My guess is if you're not seeing lots of LFM spam on your Level 50 or main city chat, your server is full of a bunch of elitist asshats (or just empty).

We finally got him last night with only two deaths on the last phase. I don't know what we did but it was pretty flawless. Promptly killed Aleria after.

We're going after him on Sunday, looking forward to it. I think the boosts to the T2 armor will help as we were having trouble getting enough DPS on the bomb phase.
