The game was fun for the leveling to 50 and even after 50 running dungeons with a good group was fun.
They made it too easy to level and don't have enough variety at 50 to keep me interested.
Honestly, forget 10% experience nerf as suggested. Drop it down by 30%. Levelling was just way too fast.
Some of the Rift dungeons were fun but there were not enough of them and some of them just felt kind of small and simple. Keep in mind I'm used to sprawling large dungeons from EQ1 like Upper and Lower Guk, Solusek A and B, Chardok, Sebilis. And those were just from the original game and first expansion. There are a lot of great dungeons in the later expansions as well.
Rift dungeon grinding got pretty repetitive considering most people just build a role for maximum AE damage. There wasn't a lot of variety until you got to bosses. Contrast that with EQ1 where half the mobs will run when low on health and most mobs are powerful enough that you can't just run in and AE groups down. You had to be aware of healer mobs when pulling multiple mobs and wizard mobs actually gated.
Again, aside from bosses, mobs just didn't seem as interactive and "real" in Rift as in such an old game like EQ1. In EQ1 you'd better learn who the cleric mobs are because they will drop a Complete Heal, wizard mobs will gate and likely bring a train, and many mobs will run when low on health. There's no easy button.
The original EQ1 development team also did a great job on skill/spell upgrades in the original game as you leveled up. In a game like Rift (I have almost no experience in WoW) you wanted to get to 50 ASAP to maximize your abilities because your character didn't "feel" complete until then. I think this is partially the fault of the multi-class system where you had the ability to pick and choose your skill set but a build which is good for levelling may not be the one you want to run in a dungeon. In EQ1 you could feel your character growing stronger as you leveled. You still had your core abilities and those never changed. Only get stronger as you leveled. Granted you didn't get certain core abilities until your late teens in EQ1. It was still early enough that your character didn't feel stifled or incomplete. Again, I think this is due to the stricter control on skill/spell gain.
You on Defiant or Guardian?
Although my computer crapped out on me. I suspect the motherboard has been going on me for quite a while but I've been too lazy to change it. It finally crapped out on me and won't even boot from my Windows install disc. I think it might have killed my WD Raptor which lost its partition, shows CRC errors, and now has issues formatting it. RMA time.
