I looooooooove that spec. So easy to do continuous pulls and never have any downtime (plus be near full hp!!)

Necrolock build

This is purely a soloing build for PvE. Has a lot of survivability. Has decent damage output. Keep in mind the build was not built purely for DPS. It's sole premise is survivability.

I can kill the Necromantic War Golems in Stillmoor with T1 gear with this build. Granted I'm much better geared now. With T2 (and up) gear, I can kill elites in Stillmoor castle.

The Chloromancer's Bloom is purely to heal up after a fight. Withering Vine and Radiant Spores is to help you and your pet heal up. Every little extra bit helps.

I start by casting Looming Demise and Essence Link on a mob. This debuffs the mobs attack and then buff your pets attack. Cast Grave Rot. Be careful as it's a ground AE spell. Cast Radiant Spores. At this point, if you have a damage buff, cast it. Follow up with Necrosis, Dark Touch, Withering Vine, and Life Leech. Drop a Plague Bolt if you need more charge after this rotation and use Soul Purge when you have a decent amount of charge to heal yourself and your pet. Rinse repeat until mob is dead. Use only the rogue pet for normal trash, elites, use the warrior pet. Soul Purge is your bread and butter. It heals you and your pet as well as provides damage.

Looming Demise > Essence Link > Grave Rot, Radiant Spores
Necrosis > Dark Touch > Withering Vine > Life Leech
Plague Bolt & Soul Purge as needed/available

I wouldn't say that Rift is too easy, after all it needs to be accessible for a wide range of players.

If you are a veteran group then you can always add difficulty yourselves by going for the achievements - some of the rapid assaults are brutal without cheating. Many of the expert rifts and raid rifts can be challenging when done with the minimum number of players, and the raids in general require both coordination and optimized specs.

My issue is that levelling is simply way too fast and that small group content is not there. Too much of the content outside of experts and dungeons are soloable with almost no challenge.

This game is getting more and more interesting for me

Apparently this game is all about pulling multiple mobs. This is something I need to get used to, especially as a necrolock.

Not really. You can get by soloing individual mobs. Especially as a necrolock... since you can chain pull without issues. You'll tear through single mobs fast enough to make it akin to AoE pulls. Also, once you get up in the upper 30's, you'll have enough spells to handle AoE pulls efficiently too.

Just want to bump this up to inform whoever is interested that today Rift is $9.99 (regular) or $14.99 (collector's edition) on Steam, *including* the first month of subscription.

I'm really tempted... I have a new born though and I don't know that I'd get any time to play

Just quit after the first month and you're only out $10 (or $15 if you want the extra stuff, which are worth it) if you found out that you didn't have the time

After a few days I can say that I like it a lot, it feels a lot like WoW (in all of the good ways), and at the same time also feels a lot different (in all of the good ways as well).

Looks for some DPS build suggestions for my mage. My main spec is a necro / lock but I'm struggling to turn out the DPS. Perhaps its my rotation. I've been recently trying out a Stormcaller / Elementalist build. Still working out the kinks with the built. Certainly seem to have a lot of AOE damage with this build. What is a good build for single target nuking like on a boss fight? I'll have to update my post with my build links when I get home. I don't have access to it at work.

This seems unintentionally misleading -
The leveling does not stop at level 50 - it actually just starts. For PvE you'll need to repeat dungeons many times to gear up (increasing Hit or Focus for DPS, along with other stats to make the cut for content) - you will also need to grind faction points (repeating low level dungeons in fast 15 minute runs, or running around a circle with a large group in one of the zones killing all the mobs).

Raid content has obvious and not so obvious requirements - 200-300 hit/focus for DPS, along with 900+ DPS for Ranged and 1200+ DPS for melee for raiding. Similar requirements exist for healers and tanks - all based on specific bosses. Beyond just learning the mechanics, the raid needs to pass Tanking / DPS and Healing checks during progression.

There is some limited 10-player content, but most of the end-game raiding requires 20 people, and that usually requires a guild with 30+ competent members willing to raid at least 2-3 times a week.

The good - when your skill/gear level increases the raids become increasingly faster - what used to take an entire 4 hour evening to clear can later be done in 1-2 hours. Trion also made some of the entry level content easier - and with following good guides you can catch up to other players.

For PvP it's even more complicated - you start as cannon fodder, dealing up to 30-50% less damage to opponents, and having no access to some useful PvP-Only skills.

Valor - the PvP-only stat - reduces damage taken from everything, and stacks with damage resistances you can get from your PvP-only tree that's Prestige-Rank based.

What you need is to earn Prestige, which you get for assisting on kills, and completing PvP related quests (which may be difficult with the open-world ones). Most of it you'll be getting from Warfront grind - and this depends entirely on your server choice. On some servers one of the sides is just better and has faster queues then on others - leading to faster progression and in increasing advantage.

What is worse, just doing PvP won't be enough - you'll also need to raid to get the best Weapons - the gear you get from PvP doesn't have some of the key stats for PvE making it difficult. You'll need to spend time doing both to stay competitive.

In terms of overall time investment - you're going to spend at least two-three times more effort on the hidden leveling after 50 then you did reaching that levels. Expect hundreds of hours dedicated to catching up - and applying to an active ~25+ member guild to enjoy most of the content.

Look for guilds that achieve world/server firsts and see if they post any guides or participate in discussions. Only take advice from someone with proven reputation, as it's easy to get derailed and run sub-par specs in Rift. Be careful - guides can become updated and misleading after a patch - big patches like the recent 1.3, or even smaller fixes/updates. Try to find the latest opinions.

This man speaks the truth. The grinding just gets started at level 50. I have roughly T1 equivalent crafted/faction/AH gear and I've got a long ways to go. I have around 163 hit rating, so T2 is still a ways off.

The forums are actually pretty good for builds, and as a mage you can try them out yourself on a practice dummy and run a parser to work on your rotations.

I'll let somebody who has a main mage answer in specifics, but in general the mages I group with post-1.3 seem to prefer the necro/lock/archon (33/33/0 or 28/38/0) for sustained single target DPS, and the 51 necro for burst DPS or where mana is a concern.

I've been playing since Friday and have a lvl 14 defiant Rogue.

I'm just kinda whizzing through quests and running around to rift events. Still not 100% on story line or how the areas are set up. Played WOW for about 6 months a couple years ago.

Any tips? I see people my level with mounts, how do I get one?

If you're Defiant, just follow the main road and you'll get to the capital city. They sell the mount there for ~2.7 platinum. When you see people your level with mounts it's usually the digital collector's edition bonus, the giant turtle. They can use this mount as soon as they can get to a mailbox (around level 6, usually).

oh... : )

I'm guessing 100 gold is 1 platinum? I almost had 100g but bought another bag.

Yes. I never bought anything from the vendor (maybe one or two health potions) so when I got to level 16 and found the capital city I had about 1.5 platinum. However this was as a trial account and the next day I bought the collector's edition so I got my mount for free

I jumped on the $15 deal too and the mount helps. I'm not sure if I will stick it out till endgame but I do like how the Rifts appear and the game makes it very easy for everyone to band together to take it out, with rewards. This is a nice change from WoW, I'm a fan of environmental events instead of just the usual boring grind.

Last night was a ton of fun, there was a zone event where endless waves of invasions kept attacking the Glade until two death nodes and two water nodes were destroyed. Being part of the Glade defense netted a ton of stuff, since it was unlimited waves and we kept pushing them back as a large group of random players banding together.

I'm still in the first zone and it's been a lot of fun.
